While sulphites have been used for centuries, they may adversely affect asthmatics and cause breathin...g difficulties in a small number of people.
Wine is also often fined – that is, a substance is added that helps precipitate impurities, which are then filtered off. Fining agents include egg white, isinglass (made from fish bladders), milk casein, gelatine, bentonite clay and silica.
