Wish this was not in the evening! Another problem with MS is that I lost my night vision so unable to drive at that time of night. And while I have not had Dr. Payne as my own doctor, he was the ER doctor for my friend a few years ago, and I was very impressed with Dr. Payne. On a "good" night, I will get 4 hours of sleep total (total because it is... Read More broken up into 2 or 3 segments due to spasms or pain). Then every 4th or 5th night I will be able to get 4 hours uninterrupted sleep because of becoming so extremely tired -- only to awake barely able to move at all for an hour or so. I have tried everything suggested in MS magazine articles to no avail.

National MS Society, Minnesota Chapter November is National Family Caregivers Month. What are some little things people can do to recognize their care partner and make them feel special?

A little unexpected note, email, phone call. Also - I believe a true, heart-felt thank you speaks volumes. This is what I will do - too often in the craziness of our lives, we forget to stop and look our caregiver/partner in the eyes and say:
"... thank you."

Nuts! I missed it... oh well. I already know about MS :). I think it would be pretty effective to bring in some balance boards (the ones with the board on top of a half-ball) and have people stand with one foot on each. Then have them do things that involve standing - even something like "washing dishes" or "cooking" - so they can see how much more... Read More work and energy it takes to balance properly. Or have them shave/brush teeth with their non-dominant hand. Or strap on 10 lb ankle weights and have them run...

I always tell people it is like putting the smallest tightest gloves on your hands thats how my hands feel- same with putting a size or 2 smaller shoes on but the electric cord is the easiest to explain.

Matt POLL: I'm looking for a consensus here... do you prefer to workout and exercise in the morning when you're rested and muscles are stronger, but knowing that it will sap your day's energy reserves sooner; or later in the evening so that you have all night to rest afterward, but your muscles are weaker and unable to do as much?

National MS Society, Minnesota Chapter November is National Family Caregivers Month and a time to recognize family members who care for people with MS. Which term do you prefer: Caregiver or care partner?

It's not a matter of preference. Ultimately you need to look at what fits the needs of your family. Some partners may choose to hire a caregiver-- if they themselves are incapable of partaking due to other obligations. I give thumbs up for both the Caregiver and Carepartner.

There needs to be more things available up here on the Range instead of always in the Cities. I can't get to most of the things offered due to I have 3 kids and a husband and everything is so far away!! Sucks when you would like to participate in so many things but it is impossible when they are always so far away!
