I was lucky enough to be there last night and it was such a treat. I am very grateful to have joined the Film Plus crowd. The movie was breathtaking and then to hear both Tom and Julianna speak afterwards was amazing. On the way out both Tom and Julianna were gracious enough to let us talk to them and I shook Tom's hand and told him what an wonderful film he had made. Thank you MOMA for a very special evening. I am looking forward to both Clint Eastwood's movie and Emily Blunt's.

MoMA On Film wants to know how many of you saw "New Moon" this weekend? What did you think? We saw "Up" (fantastic) and "House of the Devil" (very good). Also, how great is it that we have a whole new batch of movies to devour on Wednesday?

Well...history tells us that remakes of original films usually pails in comparison. I think Harvey Keitel can rest on his laurels with his performance in the original Bad Lieutenant.

One could say the Twilight series does for teenagers what Harry Potter series did for preteens. ;-)

MoMA On Film Our friend Anne Thompson asks Tom Ford 16 questions about "A Single Man". We love the fact that he shot his movie on film. Check it out.

Ex-Gucci designer Tom Ford, 49, has David Geffen to thank not only for his old office complex on Sunset, but for advising him to invest in himself. That he did, with his remarkably assured $7-million film debut, A Single Man. ...

MoMA On Film The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has released the "short list" for the 2009 Documentary Feature Oscar. Some interesting choices and omissions (No "Anvil!"?). What do you think? PS- We are screening three of these films as part of The Contenders!

Beverly Hills, CA (November 18, 2009) — The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that 15 films in the Documentary Feature category will advance in the voting process for the 82nd Academy Awards®. Eighty-nine pictures had originally qualified in the category.

Interesting that "Good Hair" didn't make the list. I wasn't crazy about the competiton ending, but I would have still thought it'd make the short lists...

MoMA On Film While Tom Ford is best known as a fashion designer, his debut feature film "A Single Man" received rave reviews at the Venice and Toronto film festivals this fall. We are screening "A Single Man" for our Film Plus members next Monday and Mr. Ford will be in attendance for a post-screening discussion. Ask a question her...e and we will do our best to see that he answers it next week. Fire away!

It’s no surprise that the feature film directing debut of fashion designer Tom Ford is a thing of heart-stopping beauty. He celebrates the male form with a sensual reverence. He uses colour with the visual articulacy of Wong Kar Wai and frames his shots with elegance and wit. ...

It's great that someone who is not trained academically in film is stepping out of his field and giving great work to the industry.
More in future from scientists and others I hope :)

MoMA On Film "Le joli mai" screens tonight at MoMA as a part of our To Save and Project exhibition. With the French-Algerian War coming to a bitter and brutal end, Chris Marker
joined now-legendary cameraman Pierre Lhomme in conducting hours of
interviews on the streets of Paris. The result is a fascinating
political and social docume...nt, a snapshot of French citizens reflecting
on the meaning of happiness, whether personal or collective, even as
they confess anxiety about the future of their families and their nation
