Struggle for dignity: My experiences with the Zapatistas (EZLN), with Gerardo Tristan

Also discussed: Queer Marketing & Branding on a national level to create community.

Spread the Word: Marketing and PR for Artists and Activists
Are you a show producer without an audience? Do you spend hours organizing actions and only a handful of people show up? It's disappointing to put so much energy into your work when this happens. Learn some PR and marketing basics from Ms. Bea Haven, founding producer of Chicago's Girlie-Q productions, one of Chicago's oldest burlesque ensembles and (by day!) a marketing director with more than a decade of professional, non-profit experience in the arts & advocacy fields.

Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence in the Queer/Trans Community, with Sarah Meng & Tommy Theollyn
This workshop intends to speak to the reality of sexual assault and domestic violence within the queer and/or trans communities. We will look at the resources available to us and examine the ways that multiple isms contribute to violence and limit access to resources. We will strategize ways to confront, prevent, and heal from this violence, as well as begin to build a larger framework for action within a transformative justice context. Open to all.

Strategies for Community Safety & Police Accountability, with Moki of BLOCS
his presentation and facilitated discussion will address the issue of safety: safety within our communities and safety from the police. We will discuss what role the police play in our vision of a safe world, police-initiated abuse, targeting and violence in our communities, and current efforts to change policing practices & increase accountability. From there, we will do a community safety strategy brainstorm, using East Atlanta Village as a case study (or other area, determined by who is in the room), to come up with some concrete strategies to increase safety without strengthening police presence.
