The U.S. has been a space-faring nation for half a century. But with the shuttle era coming to an end, will Americans be grounded? Not with NASA's Ares rockets poised on the pad

That's false George Space X has flown payloads into orbit they are assembling and getting ready to launch a vehicle from the cape that will supply pressurized as well as unpressurized cargo to the space station under the COTS contract . The first flight will happen in the next couple of months. It will take 3 years to get the escape system set ... Read Moreup for the capsule otherwise it is ready to accept manned missions. however they need to fly a series of shake down flights to verify safety and functionality. Those flights will start supplying the space station in the latter part of 2010 then 2011 and 2012.

Using operations like Spacex is a smart move for proven and need logistical support. By doing this, it frees up our engineering teams to focus on new more advanced operations and technologies. If only Deke was still alive to see the actual commercialization of space operations. He and I had some long chats about it out in the sands launching Space Services Inc Payloads.

Ok, very graceful flight an sep two chute landing, however c will the results of the data prove it can be the work 'horse' they are needing for payload delivery and yet meet the requirements to keep the crews safe? I some how still like the brick glider effect for landings. they are ending the shuttle soon with no alternatives that are ready to fly.

NASA Ares Projects Office Hey folks, check out this awesome video of footage from the final days of Ares I-X.

Source: www.youtube.com
A little movie I put together about the final days of the Ares I-X project. All the shooting and production of the video was done on my own time and not sponsored by NASA or its contractors. All areas that were filmed were previously available to the press or public. ...

Wow, I didn't realize my little video had made it so far! Glad everyone liked it! :)

I was the 2nd shift lead vehicle engineer for Ares I-X at KSC, so I had a lot of neat opportunities during this project. Tried to always keep my camera near by to shoot some of the cooler moments. Definitely the greatest thing I have ever worked on, and that is saying quite a bit!

Hopefully, Jeff's permission to post on here has been denied. He can find someplace else for his idiotic rantings.

I missed the launch, thought about skipping my class to watch the launch, but I was expecting the launch to be delayed again. So, I should have stayed home.

Jeremy: That maneuver is intentional to ensure the vehicle does not recontact the tower. Saturn V had a similar maneuver it had to perform as well.
