Each academic year, NEIU-El Centro showcases a Latin American country. This year we will be celebrating Colombia: its people, culture and traditions. This celebration includes a Feria Colombiana with the purpose of promoting Colombian culture in Chicago.
The fair will include cultural performances, lectures, vendors, an...d will conclude with the screening of a Colombian film.
Proceeds from the event will go toward the NEIU-El Centro Foundation endowment/scholarship fund.

Erick Howenstine, professor, geography and environmental studies, leads students Kate Ekman, environmental studies major, and Lyubomir Dimov, computer science major, as they conduct a controlled prairie burn in the swamp white oak savanna on NEIU's main campus.
Prairies are burned to reduce fire hazard...s and restore the prairie ecosystem. Such fires help return nutrients to the soil and keep non-native plants at bay. Controlled burns are conducted only when weather conditions are safe and favorable, taking into account temperature, wind and humidity.
