Good technology for converting a 25,000 year sequestration problem to more of a 400 year sequestration problem exists but is currently largely unfunded in this country.
International efforts in separation and transmutation of wastes, including design of innovative specialized Transmuter reactors that burn long lived minor actinide wastes in special molten salt reactors producing energy and fission products have been devised. These waste handling designs deserve to go from paper designs to demonstration hardware.
