Fair Trade Recipe: Equal Exchange Rich and Chocolatey Fair Trade Brownies. Try baking this classic, delicious treat from scratch using Fair Trade ingredients.
Ingredients:
2 1/2 sticks butter, melted (10 ounces)
1 cup Equal Exchange baking cocoa (http://www.equalexchange.coop/cocoa/)
1 pound Fair Trade brown sugar (http://...www.deansbeans.com/coffee/results.html?c ategory=Sugar)
5 eggs
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 cup unbleached white flour
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and oil a 9x12-inch baking pan. Beat the cocoa into the melted butter with an electric mixer until smooth. Add each of the remaining ingredients in turn, beating after each addition until smooth. Pour the batter into the pan and bake for about 25 minutes, until the middle is set and the edges are pulling away from the sides of the pan. Let cool and enjoy!!

Nearly 1,000 workers at a non-Fair Trade tea plantation in West Bengal, India recently dared to challenge injustice. Their protest against the inhumane treatment of a fellow tea worker led the plantation management to lockout workers and deny them their wages for months.

The IUF (International Union of Food workers) has launched an online campaign of protest, noting that the company -- which produces the world-famous Tetley teas -- is a member of the "Ethical Tea Partnership" and has thereby committed itself to better treatment of its workers than what is currently being carried out.
