when the snow falls those rocks will under 2 - 4 feet or more of packed snow. this is why the trail signs are 8 feet in the air. I have seen those signs you can't reach in the summer about knee high in mid-winter.
Also, the rocks provide erosion control during mud and rain season- they are hell to hike over by the way but that's the way it is :)

I think they are a great idea. I just don't think the Adirondack Mountain Club, should complain about rocks being removed from snowmobile trails. They say it's not natural.

While the issue of the removal of the bridge over Oak Orchard Creek
is not yet resolved, the Genesee Sno-Packers snowmobile club and the
Genesee County Highway Department are prepared to sit down and discuss
a solution.
The Sour Springs Road Bridge was not on the Legislatures Agenda for
the last meeting, but parties did dis...cuss the situation after the
legislative session.

"There has been positive movement toward a
legal agreement...", according to a County Highway Superintendent Tim
Hens. Town of Alabama Councilman Max Maerten and
Sno-Packers President Kevin Fisher actions each is willing to take to
enusre an agreement can be reached to re-install the bridge built and
previously installed by the Sno-Packers.

Genesee County, on the advice of counsel, ripped out a 60 foot
bridge constructed by the Genesee Sno-Packers.

The club needs help
getting this fixed, the bridge is not destroyed and can be put back in
place to keep this corridor trail(C4G) open. The problem seems to be
with the county attorney.

NYSSA has been advised
and re...commends for all NYSSA members as well as citizens of Genesee
County to contact the elected officials for this area(Especially the
County elected officials) whether by phone, e-mail, postal mail and fax
to express your concerns.

18% of registration fee goes to NYS, the rest goes to snowmobile clubs for trail maintenance reimbursement, all of club membership fee goes to snowmobiling, the cost of a no registration ticket is $200

Isahia, the clubs need the money that is generated by your registrations-$10 goes to DMV for processing, the rest gets returned to the clubs for trial build and maintenance and grooming. In fact, the only thing that has not gone up at the DMV is snowmobile registrations. If you choose not to and get caught, the $200 fine goes into the trail fund also.
