Teamwork is most important. I remember the days when we could work together: transportation aides helping with getting people out of bed, etc. Staff considered ALL patients to be their assignments despite the actual paper assignment: getting pain meds, answering call lights. etc. Now staff has 'their' patients & seem to ignore others.
We need cooperation! The profession needs to stop eating their young!

Hospitals should provide continuing education @ the workplace for staff convenience. Every unit should have a designated Educator who is considered the 'expert'. CEU's could be obtained in short meetings or have workbooks to study, then take tests that would grant CEU's.

Ewa Bąkowska

Ewa Bąkowska Hi! I have been watching the NurseZone for a while. The nursing in Poland can not compare withe the nursing in the USA, but I know that we are as good at our job in here as nurses in the states. The problem is that we do not recognize our power in Polish health care system. Tell us what to do, to became consolidated in screaming for our rights to earn appropriate money for our hard work????

Keep note cards in your pocket and when you have a chance at work look at them....take extra bathroom breaks if you have to. Review information over and over in your mind when you don't have your book in front of you.
My son is 12 and likes to listen to me read outloud. Incorporate reading time into some time spent with your kids. It's hard but it will be worth it in the end! Good luck!

Get a great planner and learn to manage your time. Set aside very specific times that you only study, but also time that you can spend with your family. You sadly will have to make some sacrifices with a social life and probably won't spend the time with your family like you would prefer, but it is worth it. It is a short commitment for a lifelong ... Read Morefulfilling career. If you know you have an exam coming up you may need to budget a little more study time. I also find it helpful to leave the house, go to a coffee shop or library otherwise you are tempted to stray from the designated time to do something else. And also if you have study groups you will be more obligated to go. GOOD LUCK!!

Sean Healy

Sean Healy Any Australia-trained RNs out there who were able to get a license to practice in California? Any tips, info, advice? My wife is devastated as she was just turned down for lacking a few course elements in Obstetrics from UTS in Sydney. Thanks!

I have been looking into getting a RN license in CA too, but it has been very difficult to get an answer from anybody. I even called the CA board of nursing only to be hung up on (waste of a international phone call that was). So far I know I need clinical & theory experience in medical, surgical, mental health, maternity, and paediatrics, but again: lack of information, nobody has been able to tell me where or how to get this extra experience.
