The Oceanaire Seafood Room - Washington DC Nantucket bay scallops are a regional seafood that native New Englanders treasure. In fact most Nantucket Bay Scallops never leave New England. Cooking bay scallops can be a treat all to itself, as bay scallops are excellent for frying, sautéing, baking, or broiling.

"The arrival of Nantucket Scallops means that the sea...sons are starting to change and the weather is getting a little cooler. They are almost the perfect food. The scallops are small, very sweet and delicate. They go well in simple preparations and are a perfect accompaniment to the autumn produce. The scallops pair well with apples, squash and are great simply with garlic and butter. Best prepared broiled or sautéed but I prefer broiled. A favorite recipe is broiled with reduced cider, apples and butter."

The Oceanaire Seafood Room - Washington DC Nov. 1 is the opening of scallop season, which runs through the end of March. There are two types of scallops in the market, bay scallops and sea scallops. No scallop found anywhere in the world is more highly prized than the unique Nantucket Bay Scallop. At almost twice the size of the average bay scallop and half the... size of larger sea scallops, these scallops offer a fantastic sweet flavor. Bay scallops are the smaller of the two and they’re also sweeter and more expensive than the larger sea scallops. However, the Nantucket Bay Scallop’s flavor is rich and you don't need as large a portion to have a satisfying meal. Join us all week for more information on this great seafood item!
