Oregon Brewers Festival We took some flak this year for allowing people to bring in bottled water as long as the container was sealed. We've checked with OLCC, and there is no ruling that prohibits outside beverages - so next year, pack your Nalgenes, your Siggs and all your other sports bottles and bring em in - just make sure they contain water, no alcohol!

Roger, we encourage you to recycle all old mugs at the festival - we have recycling stations set up at all entrances/exits, and have found a local recycler that will accept them. I wouldn't toss them in your recycling bin, chances are they will end up in the landfill. We can guarantee ours are truly recycled. Also, we've looked into the corn mugs but they are extremely expensive when purchasing the quantity we are looking at, and costs would raise at the fest.

Forget recycling -- allow us to reuse the mugs. Reusing plastic is far better than recycling. I don't need a new mug every year.

Oregon Brewers Festival We have deleted the post looking for the volunteer from the 2008 festival, because many of our fans seemed to think we were stalking her - we weren't! We love that photo, and it is frequently requested by the media. We'd like to know who she is so we can forward her the clippings that come about, like the one in the last post.

A rough translation is "Portland is Beervana, and the OBF is the coolest!" I think.

This may be hard for some of you to believe, but sometimes there’s more to a beer festival than just the beer. I return to the Oregon Brewer’s Festival every year. The beers change and there’s plenty of great (and some not-so-great) brews to dissect and discuss. ...

Oregon Brewers Festival Did you try Beer Chips at the OBF this year? They are thick-cut kettle style chips with a serious coating of sugar and salt, then covered with a major dose of the world’s most perfect beverage…beer! Become a fan on their Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Beer-Chips/140883709032?ref=ts

By really thinking hard one afternoon, the inventor of Beer Chips® created this technical beer-o-vation breakthrough. We harvest only the freshest cans of beer from local beer trees. We then squeeze all of the beer juice out to create our proprietary flavor recipe. These guzzle worthy chips provide a common sense an...swer when the inevitable and life-altering munchies come along and your stomach has taken over the thinking process with the only words it knows is “Beer & Chips." Perfect for those snack-challenged folks at your local microbrewery, bar, ballpark, racetrack or backyard BBQ. Beer Chips will be there to help you truly multi-task while you watch your favorite game and enjoy your favorite beverage with good friends. A virtual party in your mouth delivered in a shiny golden amber bag. And, since man doeth not live on beer alone, we created: Chips Shots® - Margarita with salt potato chips Hot Potatoes® - Spicy Bloody Mary potato chips Can’t find Beer Chips at your local bar? Start yelling at the bartender or give us a call to get your own golden amber bag that says “BEER CHIPS” on it! Need a photo of the shinny bag, just email us at info@beerchips.com Read More

Oregon Brewers Festival One of the most frequently asked questions we heard during this year's festival was if there were any gluten free beers available. There were not, but each brewery chooses which beer they want to bring, so GF fans should contact their local brewery and start lobbying now for them to make a beer for next year's festival.

They should have walked over to Deschutes which makes a pretty good gluten free beer.

ok... there are only so many taps available. I'm sure they're gonna bring their heavy hitters or crowd pleasers, not some niche only stuff. Non alchy's shouldn't come to a "BEER FESTIVAL" and well... enough said.

Violet Cleary Norm: "Sammy, I didn't want to say this in front of the others, but... you know what I think the most important think in life is? It's love. You wanna know what I love?" Sam: "Beer, Norm?" Norm: "Yeah, I'll have a quick one."

Alissa

Alissa Chris, I have a friend asking where she might find the Coco Loco beer that was at the Fest...Do you know if it's available anywhere around here? Thanks!

Hey Alissa, Kona's Coco Loco was sent over to the festival from the island, and I'm afraid that's the only place to find it right now. So if anyone is craving a Coco Loco, book one of the amazingly cheap Alaska tickets and get on over to the Big Island!!

Oregon Brewers Festival If you like winter beers, you'll love the Holiday Ale Festival in downtown Portland Dec. 2-6. Become a fan here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Holiday-Ale-Festival/139185448932?ref=ts

While eggnog and hot toddies are commonly associated with the holidays, it’s no surprise that in the beer mecca of the Pacific Northwest, craft ales are the drink of choice: specifically, big, bold ales designed to fend off the cold chill of a long winter night. The Holiday Ale Festival annually gathers together more ...than 40 of these winter warmers for a joyous five-day celebration. Despite being held outdoors during one of the coldest months of the year, more than 17,000 festival attendees stay warm and dry under clear-topped tents that cover the venue. Gas heaters create a cozy ambience beneath the boughs of the region's largest decorated Christmas tree. In addition to beer tasting, the festival also features on-site food, event merchandise, complimentary root beer for designated drivers, mead sampling, a coat check and seasonal background music. The beers featured are rich, robust and full of complex flavors - they range from IPAs, Belgians and Barleywines to Winter Warmers, Scotch Ales and Stouts. Most have been created specifically for the event, or are vintage or specialty kegs: these beers are difficult to find, which has earned the Holiday Ale Festival its reputation as the premier winter beer tasting venue on the West Coast. Brewing special seasonal beers predates modern history and has its origin in the pagan celebrations of winter solstice. Designed to fend off the cold of a long winter night, winter beers are traditionally complex in aroma and flavor, big in body, and high in alcohol. Thanks to an extra dose of malt, these beers are rich and bold, with chocolate, caramel or coffee flavors; others benefit from the addition of extra hops, herbs, spices and fruit.Read More

If I can get to Portland that week, I will make a note to self to attend. Sounds like a great time. This would also help me get over not being to attend the GABF this fall.
