Karen McKinnon

Karen McKinnon Hi Christine, there used to be surveys posted on the Homeaway site that I can no longer find. Can you please direct me to them and also where might I find quarterly results posted? I am not only interested from an owner point of view but also in preparation for me thesis on 2nd home ownership turned rental business. Thanks a million!

You'll have to contact the PR department of HomeAway. They have all of the quarterly reports. (They are super busy due to all the Super Bowl coverage, so it may take a while to get a response.) You can find PR contact info under about us on HomeAway.com.

I'd love to read your thesis when you are done.

Best wishes,... See More

Debbie Fiskum We are just planning to put our second home on the market as a vacation rental. Your site provides a lot of good info. We are excited to get it started. Ours is a secluded lake home in central Minnesota - lots of water activity and more!

Patricia Benitez CHRISTINE... for a website that call rent by owner its signature... do you think that 80% of lHOME AWAY listings in my town listed by realtors is really rent by owner? I don't think... strategically no good move.. You suggest that renters use search criteria (left part of the website) my chance to be seen by the re...nter is 20% when the chance by the realtors is 80% Is HOMEAWAY DIRECTING HIS BUSSINES TO RENT BY OWNERS? I DON'T THINK SO.. please let me know another town where this kind of proportion happen... so I will understand and see a new opportunity for all the owners...

But HomeAway is not a Rent by Owner site. They are an all encompassing vacation rental site. For travelers to have more choices in choosing vacation rentals, be it through the owners or through property managers. We're all in the same industry.

Property managers are not our competitors. Hotels are our #1 competitors.

Patricia Benitez I'm a home owner. Today I researched Homeaway website and the houses that they have listed in my liitle beach town, I was planning to list my house.. But what a surprise they have almost 700 houses in my town listed but, almost 600 houses below to a big realtor Weitcher Realtors and all of them where in the first 19 p...ages..... So, the likelihood to be seen even when if Renter use search criteria is minimun... What a sad thing. Homeway will be an extension of realtors? At this point Christine even you will be sad to see listings wiht out pictures. What do you think...

I own in areas where there are a lot of property manager's homes listed too. But in my experience, it's easy to make my home stand out from the rest with better and different photos, compelling headlines and I do think my ads are more "complete" than most property managers.

Remember a traveler might use those buttons on the left side of the page to refine their results too.

When the renters use the left side of homeaway website which is a search criteria there is 80% of chance that the properties that they will have below to THE REALTOR.... That is the actual composition.. sad.... IS TIME TO MAKE OWNER... OWNERS OF THEIR OWN WEB SITE.?

Melissa Henson Kaiser We're just beginning the vacation rental home process. We are curious, for a smaller room, bunk beds or daybed with trundle?

We are hoping to use part of the room for a play center for kids (book shelf for toys, etc.) so we wanted to try to just take up the space of a twin bed either bunks or daybed with trundle. I figured adults wouldn't like bunk beds and the daybed/trundle was best especially for any adults/kids who didn't want to necessarily "share" a bed.

The daybed with a pop-up trundle would work well for you then. This way it would be like a King when it's popped up.

The way you update is is on the top left side of the homepage you'll see a link that says "owner login" If that does not work, you'll have to contact HomeAway Customer Support. http://support.homeaway.com/

Jorge Nazario We are considering allowing pets at our Homeaway rental. Can anyone provide advice or point me to information that discusses pros and cons of permitting pets? I am concerned about dealing with a pet accident during the high rental season. Thanks.

We allow pets at 2 of our rentals. They fill every year and we have never had a problem with any of them (honestly!!). I do charge an extra fee per pet and I do take security deposits. I also have a list of rules for pets and their owners responsibilities. It works very well and the people really appreciate the hospitality!
