I was the person who mentioned my wife making a Serenity Prayer cross stitch a couple of days ago... here's the one she did...

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=31074&id=1662647832&l=2aeec744d1

I had it hanging in my cube at work, but since July I've been been working at home following TURP surgery and into radiation..., so she hung it straight across from where I sit when I'm working. It's always there at eye level.Read More

Richard, Thank you. Your wife's work is beautiful. What is her name? I doubt she knew how many lives her work would touch. I am brought to tears at this moment; the birds are incredibly beautiful and I am in need today of repeating this prayer to myself. I have been saying it all day long, praying in particular for 'wisdom to know the difference'. Some days are easier than others. I am truly thankful to you. : )

Very good article I am taking High Gamma Vitamin E as well as Vitamin D3. I had Prostate Surgery 10/26/09 and plan to keep it at bay forever if I have anything to do with it.

I saw a similar article elsewhere. Yesterday when I bought orange juice I chose the Vitamin D enriched one. I have been the outdoors type all my life and have a year around tan but no skin cancer. Maybe this helps explain my 17 year (so far) survival of PCa. Regardless, a walk in the woods is good for the soul. Try it. You'll like it.

We were hoping that my husband would be without his cancerous prostate at this time, but due to circumstances beyond the good doctor's control, it was postponed until 11/30. Hope today's not the day it decides to metastasize...Thank you to everyone who has been so supportive as our surgery date approached. We sat for t...hree hours with an IV line ine before they told us we had to go home. At least we know exactly what to expect up until the surgery!Read More

David is right. A lot of people put doctor on a pedestal but they need to know you won't put up with their crap. Sometimes my wife has to reminded me that they are trying to help me, but I can't stand BS

We were just hoping that there would be no more nonsense at least before surgery. I guess we can't have expectations, other than for the unexpected. Here's to honesty and doctors and hospitals putting their patients best interest first!

The Larry King show tonight was discussing the new guidelines on breast cancer screening. I e-mailed Larry King asking him to air more on prostate cancer prevention. I realize he had a show with Mr. Milken and a panel in August, but all media outlets need to focus just as much on prostate cancer. Once my family was r...ecently touched by this dreaded cancer, we need to find a cure for the second leading cause of cancer death in men. Blessings.Read More

If a man still has a prostate, anything below 4.0 ng/ml is typically considered normal. Suggest you look at this link.

Dean Obermeyer

Dean Obermeyer I was diagnosed with early stage, high grade (gleason = 9) prostate cancer July 30, 2009. I am 2 1/2 months into a 13 month total androgen blockade treatment plan. My PSA has dropped to 0.1, and I will begin the 8 1/2 weeks of radiation treatment (IMRT) in January. Be positive, stay positive, never give in!

hi, my husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer in may of 2007. he had no symptoms at all, it was felt during his 50 yr checkup. a further biopsy and rectalcoil MRI revealed it had already spread outside the prostate. We found THE best doctor in this field, Dr. Patrick Walsh, the surgeon who invented the nerve spa...ring surgery, at johns hopkins hospital, in Baltimore. he said the best hjope for my husband jim, was to undergo radiation therapy and be on hormone therapy for 2 1/2 years. well, he just hit the 2 year mark and because of so many worsening symptoms of the hormones, they decided he could come off the hormones. my question is, what can we expect now, in terms of how will they keep track of his body, as far as checking for any returning cancer? btw, his PSA still stayed in the normal range, even after being diagnosed with cancer from the beginning.Read More

Some of the studies that have been developed to predict prognoses - e.g., the Partin Tables (Dr. Alan Partin) - were actually done at Johns Hopkins. If they cannot give you a prognosis, it may not be possible to predict.

You could also look on the Sloan Kettering website for Prostate Cancer:

http://www.mskcc.org/mskcc/html/403.cfm... Read More

They have some prediction tools, online nomograms, but I'm sure whether they would be stictly applicable...

http://www.mskcc.org/mskcc/html/10088.cfm

But they also have a link to all of the supporting papers, and they have a contact email so you could ask if they have any information that would fit your husband's case.

I wish you and him all the best...

The following is a quote from this link:
http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/Detection/PSA

It is important to note that a man who is receiving hormone therapy for prostate cancer may have a low PSA level during, or immediately after, treatment. The low level may not be a true measure of the man’s PSA level. Men receiving hormone therapy should talk with their doctor, who may advise them to wait a few months after hormone treatment before having a PSA test.

I was diagnosed in May of this year with a 9+ gleason. Doc. sad it was a very advanced and agreesive form of cancer. I immediately began to take hormone pills and two weeks later received a hormone injection. That was to stop or at least slow the growth of the tumors. I had the RP on July 9, cat removed July 29. T...hree weeks ago I began having hot flashes and the leaking which had diminshed a bit, came back as strong as ever. My follow up PSA was 0.01. This week Doc says that I will need to begin a 28 day radiation treatment after my incontinence problem subsides. I never had thought about radiation since the doc had not mentioned it before surgery. Immediately after surgery he informed me that they had gotten all of the cancer. If that is so why do I need the radiation. Doc says it is just to clean up any residual cancer that mey not show up on the psa test.Read More

It does not hurt a bit. It is kind of boring. You must be positioned exactly and remain still so they precisely hit what they are aiming to hit and not good tissue. If you are a little bit mechanically inclined you will be entranced as I was at how they use tiny tattoo dots on you with lasers on the walls and ceiling to do the aiming. They also ... Read Morerotate the source around you to minimize exposure to the good tissue. Science is wonderful and it is going to prolong your life. I am a retired engineer and was fascinated by the whole procedure. There is nothing to fear but fear itself.

robert, listen to your doctor and get the radiation. it is better to be safe than sorry. my husband went through 39 treatments of it (external beam) with little or no discomfort. the technology today is excellent! you want to give your body the very best chance you possibly can! let us know what you decide.
