Steve Maconi: Greetings from Sweden! :) I come from the US originally, so I know how homosexuality and transgenderism goes back home, and after seeing the genuine social and political acceptance and equality of this country, I really feel, even more than when I lived there, the trouble that innocent people go through just for trying...... to live freely and happily. I hope that someday, the United States will grow up and realise the plain, flat truth: Homosexuality is just as natural as heterosexuality, and feeling inside that you are the opposite gender is just as natural as feeling that you are the gender you were physically born as. PFLAG has been working evidently so hard to achieve the goal of spreading the reality of this to all, and I really appreciate it. I intend to attend a PFLAG meeting when I return to Boston. Thank you for all your support!!

PFLAG National Please take pictures of your happy PFLAG families this week and link them to PFLAG on Facebook or Flickr--we want to show the world how amazing PFLAG families are!

E. Ann Powell
I'm a 52 year old lesbian. Am disabled. Teach English at a university as an adjunct. Am a recovering alcoholic in my 17th year of recovery. I also hold a M.A. in Counseling. I understand family systemic and structural dynamics. I've lived in Spain and in Dominican Republic; speak/read/write fluent Spanish. I care about...... the disenfranchized . . . always have. I followed and still follow my heart, a road with heart, as Don Juan
Matus said, in the original music industry and have done well as a
singer-songwriter and musician. And since about ____ (pick a year), I have DREADED every holiday with my family of origin. I was the oldest "hero child" until I began having panic attacks and came out, proud; I was sexually abused by a nextdoor neighbor from the time I was 6 to 12 and of course, I've received a lot of therapy for that, as I told no one in my family at the time: I DOUBTED I would be believed, as the straight-A "hero" child, athlete, etc. exists to hide familial dsyfunction and to make the family look good. My family of origin's "spin" on being queer--hyper-religious marginalizing, hurtful, verbally abusive, barbing, as they pride themselves on their "wit," excluding. And . . . that I was "faking" panic attacks to get attention! Living off government when, for 13 years I couldn't leave my house, here, Austin, NYC, without a safe-person and alcohol to self-medicate. Music as not viable career, the barbs, cuts, laughs and jeers. Didn't get sober through church, thus my recovery doesn't "count" in thier eyes. AA doesn't say "Jesus." And I'm glad AA excludes NO PERSON. They minimalize effects and experience of sexual abuse. AND I VOTE DEMOCRAT, aka "Socialist." And Thanksgiving looms again. I think "Nina Simone: 'I Wish I Knew What It Would Feel Like to Be Free.'"
Blessings for PFLAG and to the only reality: Love. Save oldest younger brother, who got divorced and is belittled also by this "family," I get LITTLE to NONE of that "love as reality" from family of origin. And it's Thanksgiving.
I'm grateful for a less Fascist Theocratic time in our country, because that's what it is now . . . a dammed Fascist Theocracy. I DO remember when it WAS NOT. Saddens me. I'm grateful for the family of origin I had in Austin, Texas where people were allowed to live and let live. I'm grateful for the few enlightened people in podunk North Carolina. For colleagues, professors, and just people who have not abdicated their hearts and darkened them with hate.
I'm grateful I could take a small part in The Names Project and could be of comfort to a "brother of choice" who died slowly and would have died alone, as his family of origin had disowned him. I thank a God of LOVE, the absence and antithesis of fear, for every day I live sober and renewing, evolving. I'm grateful for every anti-apartheid benefit, every queer benefit, every march, every tear-gas, every passive-resistance protest in which I participated, so that women have the right to choose.
I'm so sick of recent Fred Phelps-clones, sickos in the name of Jesus, slandering the name of Jesus, the OTHERING, the hate, and violence. The abuse. I wish my family could imagine, as the Simone and the countless others who've covered "Free" states, "I wish you could know what it means to be me." But then a lack of empathy is one trait, and perhaps the primary one, of a sociopath.
They're educated, they have money, they're big fish in a small pond: MY FAMILY IS A MICROCOSMIC LENS through which one may see more than EVER, the desperate need for PFLAG and other supportive, loving groups. I hate to say this because envy is not pretty, but I DO envy all of you who have sane and loving families. And YES, they DO exist. I've known them. I keep waiting for mine to maybe "land" and it's the Holiday Season . . . and some of us HURT, are ANGRY, and no platitudes of "their loss" . . . "they're idiots" or "they're lost" or "they're wrong" . . . I KNOW ALL THAT! I've WORKED AS A COUNSELOR:-) Sometimes, HURT JUST HURTS. Sometimes, we just need somebody to bear witness to the PAIN. Thanks and much peace!

Craig Hall: Many of my friends have chosen to live their lives in committed partnerships that aren't always socially sanctioned. But to those repressors, I say get a life and get over it! Stop worrying about what everyone else does and worry about yourselves. Something like that comes to mind from the Bible about "motes and beams" right?

Johanna I love and support my gay daugher, Gabriela. I'm empowered to know that I'm not alone and that my daughter may one day love freely and openly without fear. Until that day, we must be strong and keep moving forward. God Bless.

Joshua: I want to thank everyone here for what they do and tell them that I can never thank them enough! I really hope that when I Come Out to my Mom she will quickly sign up! Rights and Love All The Way!

Angela Shafer I wanted to thank you all for your allegiance and your work for our rights. I have a question, though. My mom, who's also very supportive, and I were talking about the gays wearing a thumb ring signal the other day. She asked if parents of gays have any signals to show their support, like a ring on a certain finger. Any thoughts?

Carolyn Kelly Creed Equality...Nothing more...nothing less !!!!!
