The
anti-abortion Nelson language in the Senate health reform bill is not a
compromise. It would establish an unworkable system, creating enormous
burdens on women and health plans for no policy reason except
stigmatizing abortion care. Get the facts. (thanks for the post Planned Parenthood of Central North Carolina

Join our friends at APPCNC as they educate on North Carolina's Healthy Youth Act!
**************************************** *************
We've already received some responses for training... Contact us now to reserve your spot!
What is the Healthy Youth Act (HYA)? How is it different from Abstinence Until Marriage Edu...cation? Which programs or curricula meet the new requirements in Reproductive Health and Safety Education?
Do you have questions about the new Healthy Youth Act?
The Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Campaign of North Carolina has the answers for you!
WHO: The Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Campaign (APPCNC) of North Carolina wants to help implement the Healthy Youth Act in your local school or school district. Working in cooperation with the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Initiatives (TPPI) program at NC DHHS, the NC Department of Public Instruction (DPI), & the North Carolina School Health Training Center (NCSHTC) - APPCNC is North Carolina's leading non-profit organization that serves training, technical assistance, and advocacy needs related to teen pregnancy prevention. To learn more about us - visit our agency at APPCNC on the web.
WHAT: APPCNC will be conducting FREE training through your local school or school district to help implement North Carolina's new Healthy Youth Act. Passed in June of 2009, the Healthy Youth Act will institute a comprehensive approach to reproductive health and safety education in North Carolina public schools.
WHY: Public schools MUST have a plan to implement the Healthy Youth Act by the 2010-2011 academic year (beginning in September 2010) to meet the requirements of the new law. Has your local school district started planning?
Do not worry! Your local middle school and high school principals have been contacted to serve as hosts for our training. We have also sent letters to each school system Superintendent by mail to offer the Healthy Youth Act Implementation Training as well. Feel free - however - to forward this e-mail along to them for review. They'll appreciate knowing that you are being proactive in planning for the Healthy Youth Act.
Don't you want to get a head-start in planning? Why wait until the last minute? Contact us now!
WHERE: APPCNC staff will be traveling across North Carolina to provide these on-site trainings. We will come to your school district! Contact your local school system Superintendent and ask them if they have received information about this FREE training.
WHEN: For three weeks in January 2010 into February 2010, APPCNC will be in your neighborhood. We will be traveling across North Carolina from January 25th to February 12th to train local schools and school districts to prepare them for implementing the Healthy Youth Act NEXT ACADEMIC YEAR (2010). We are encouraging school systems to REQUEST a specific day and time during those three weeks to have us at their site - just let us know. We can work around their timing and scheduling for a fit that meets their needs
HOW: The training will be conducted in-person by two (2) APPCNC staff at an on-site location in your area - covering all the relevant "do's" and "don't's", "can's" and "must's" that you'll want to know about the Healthy Youth Act. The training session will take approximately two (2) hours - with some flexibility in timing to meet your site's needs.
Already have a faculty meeting scheduled? Let us talk to your staff! Already meeting with your county's curriculum advisory team? Let us help guide your plan for implementation!
We are here to help you implement the Healthy Youth Act in a smooth and timely manner... Why Wait!?
Are you interested APPCNC's help to guide your implementation of the Healthy Youth Act? For more information or to request our help for a specific day/time - please contact Mary Vance at mvance@appcnc.org or by telephone at (919) 226-1880 ext. 109.

An anti-choice measure similar to the Stupak was defeated last night in the in the Senate - Call Sens. Hagan, Webb, Warner and Rockefeller to thank them. call the
U.S. Capitol Switchboard at (202)224-3121 and ask
for your Senators' office.

Great news — the Senate voted on the anti-choice Nelson/Hatch amendment to health care reform, and we won! Unlike the Stupak amendment that passed the House of Representatives, this amendment did not pass the Senate.
