Shocking STI stats- Two recent reports have concluded that young women have disproportionately high STI rates:
A 2008 CDC study estimated that nearly 19 million STIs occur each year, almost 1/2 of which are among 15- to 24-year-olds. The heaviest chlamydia and gonorrhea burdens were among adolescent girls, aged 15–19, f...ollowed closely by women aged 20–24. (see link below)
Another study found one in four females aged 14–19 has at least one of the STIs studied (HPV, gonorrhea, chlamydia, trichomoniasis, and herpes). Among female adolescents who said they had had vaginal, oral, or anal sex, the prevalence was 37.7 percent. (http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/cg
