There has been much discussion about what the “real-life” impact of the Stupak-Pitts amendment would be on women’s access to abortion care. The following is an explanation of what this provision will mean to women, if it is enacted.
Planned Parenthood of North Texas The Stupak attack means millions of women will lose private coverage for abortion services and millions more would be prohibited from buying it even with their own money. This is essentially a middle-class abortion ban that threatens to undermine Roe v. Wade.

House Democrats' passage of a health insurance bill over the weekend gave women's advocates plenty to celebrate. Yet, many expressed outrage over the restriction of abortion coverage in any of the programs linked to federal funds.
