"Meaningful living is choosing your passions over your fears. It is accepting what you cannot control and focusing on what is in your power. Meaningful living is intentional, effective and respectful. Meaningful lives are built decision by decision, one day at a time."

On Friday, November 13, from 6:00 pm until whenever..., Houston author and psychotherapist, Christopher F. Brown, LCSW, MBA, will be at Paragraphs to discuss and sign his beautiful self-help-meets-coffee-table book, The Art of Meaningful Living. The book which is a collaboration between Brown and his fellow Houstonian artist, John Palmer, illustrates concepts accepted by mental health professionals like psychiatrists, psychologists and clinical social workers.

More importantly, it is a gorgeous book, full of incredible artwork, which can be used by anyone wanting to build the life he or she has always wanted and yet it can be left out for everyone to enjoy.

They have had events in Washington DC, Houston and are scheduled to visit other metropolitan areas on their book tour so I am thrilled to have the opportunity to host this author at Paragraphs.

Open to any page and begin your own journey toward a meaningful life.

Wine and food will be available (I have it on good authority that this may be from Zeste's).

Paragraphs On Padre Boulevard - More Than a Bookstore Comment from today's Shelf Awareness: Gary Shulze, Once Upon a Crime bookstore, Minneapolis: loss-leader price wars are "turning books into a commodity and demeaning the value of a book." "Let people buy those bestsellers at the discount stores; we specialize in books people might not see at other stores. If you left it to the marketers, pretty soon only the top 10 books would be available."

Members of a book club that met at Paragraphs last night were discussing the Kindle and it was assumed that I, as a bookseller, would hate this technolo...gy. I tried to explain, but not very well, that my objection to the Kindle is not the technology but the closed system which Amazon operates.
