The transfer of Spanish West Florida to the United States, resulting from the Adams-Onís Treaty (1819), took place in Pensacola, at Plaza Ferdinand VII, on July 17, 1821.

H C Duke Boutwell I recall spending many summer days during the 50's while at my Grandma and Pops' house downtown. They lived four blocks off the water between E and F Streets near Owsley Lumber Company. I spent many wonderful times swimming and fishing at Sanders' Beach. Slower, simpler days of golden scuppanongs, watermelon and chicken and dumplin's.

Many of us were distressed to hear of the possible closing of Skopolo's Restaurant. The building used to be the Scenic Terrace where as teen-agers we danced the night away in the late 1940's and 1950's. I don't know just when the Terrace became the favorite hang out for teens, but it had a fantastic smooth dance flo...or, and as I recall, there were never any live bands, just a juke box that had to be fed coins.
I never pass Skopolo's that I don't have fond memories of those Scenic Terrace days.

Henry Croskey Mustin (1874-1923) was one of the first nine Naval officers who established the Naval Aeronautic Station (now Naval Air Station) on the site of the abandoned Navy Yard at Warrington in 1914. He was designated Navy Air Pilot No. 3 and later Naval Aviator No. 11.
