Pickens Plan Approximately 1.3 million people are employed directly by the companies that drill, ship and supply natural gas to American consumers, with another 2.7 million Americans employed in supporting positions indirectly created by the development of America’s domestic energy supplies. The combined economic impact of natural gas development, exploration, production and usage to the U.S. economy in 2008 was $385.5 billion.

@ Mr Wolff: Where is Biofuel industry energy plan on FB or anywhere else for that matter, could it be they don't have their own plan. Anyway this is Mr. Pickens and our (Army's) energy plan for America using American natural resources Natural Gas which what this thread of information is all about. Tried to find information on National Biodiesel ... Read MoreBoard website about plan for our energy future none exist to my knowledge. I Have been in the energy business for a number of years, and have experienced first hand American Capital going over seas. And I am all about free enterprise so if you can show me Biofuels energy plan will be willing to listen, but right now Natural Gas seems to be fuel of choice, not the total answer, but originally being from Pennsylvania, think the Marcellus Shale has future potential as do other Shale gas plays in America to get us out of this energy issue, and keep our investments at home.

Pickens Plan In New Jersey 277 heavy-duty nat gas garbage trucks & shuttle buses will be deployed & 4 new CNG fueling stations will soon be installed across the state. The initiative also includes projects to educate the public about the benefits of using clean burning, domestically produced nat gas in vehicles. DOE estimates that the project will help displace 1.8 million gallons of oil annually.

if only there were some type of cash for truckers program like the cash for clunkers. money to help truckers get new natural gas fueled trucks or money to help them convert their existing trucks to natural gas engines if possible. that would make the switch to natural gas fuel go much more quickly and help displace much more imported oil than the cash for clunkers program.

While we will have great sources of renewable fuel down the road, we need something now. And what is available now, and proven to be in great abundance in the United States, is natural gas.

Pickens Plan If every American home replaced just one light bulb with an ENERGY STAR® CFL bulb, we would save almost six billion kWh per year—enough energy to light nearly three million homes. We'd also save more than $600 million in annual energy costs and reduce greenhouse gases by the equivalent of nearly 750,000 cars. The average CFL lasts 10,000 hours, and when you replace it, you can recycle it!

This is Good Stuff, but 'large scale' by itself isn't going to fill the bill. Shifting to a domestically-produced alternative is good from a business perspective, of keeping the money 'local', but there's folks overseas with enough money that, if they had the opportunity, could just take over the natural gas business. No, for REAL energy security, ... Beth, you're missing the big picture. It would be impossible to produce enough renewable energy to power any sort of measureable difference in automobiles. And electric is decades away from being able to move a semi across the country (if ever) Using NG, and renewables is the only way to go. We use NG why we develop renewables, and NG to power things like semi's, trains...ect, that electric can't manage.

Tuelgen, that's why I like Boone's approach, getting the United States back towards a concept of self-sufficiency. Once upon a time, people had to live a little more independently, do for themselves, and so forth. By pursuing alternatives, we are harkening more back towards such times, getting people to think more, conserve more, use less, and ... Read Moremaybe start improving relations with some foreign countries along the way. There's no law saying we have to use petroleum, anymore. The basic science is there to start capping oil wells for good, and politely ending some foreign business relationships, too, that primarily had to do with oil. We can, and should, do for ourselves. And, along the way, we can help other countries do the same, which is good from an environmental perspective, as well as from a whirled peas perspective. No such thing as 'cant', in this dept., either, just 'haven't done it yet'.
