Ramona, Boone is very open about his investments in this area. But he has also stated on several occasions that at 80 years old, he can make it to the finish line. Reducing our dependence on foreign oil is about future generations.

I was certainly not questioning nor "downing on him" for his motivations. I was simply replying to the adulation temperment of the comment from another member. Mr. Pickens is 80 and still hitting the ground running because of his drive. And ,yes you are right it is about our childrens future.

Conservation is great for those willing but it may be easier to create cold fusion then get Americans to stop driving fast... If we design engines and transmissions to compensate for how people really drive instead of making people do the work for themselves then saving fuel would be easy... I bet that it would be amazing how much less foreign oil we would have to import if: we used Switch-grass for bio-fuels; people didn't race to red lights in their cars (only to brake to a complete stop at the light); we didn't heat or cool our entire homes while we are asleep (and our bedrooms are all that we need to make comfortable); and, we lowered the temp of our hot water heater (does our water really need to be heated to150 degrees?).

For so long, our country has been dependent on other countries to supply us with energy. We need to be able to power our cars and heat our homes with our own resources. Gas prices have sky rocketed in the last few years and they will continue to soar as long as we are held hostage by foreign oil.

Unless biofuel is produced from non-food sources, eg switchgrass or plant husks, it contributes to higher food prices and world hunger. Not a noble enterprise to say the least.

Good question Jim. The reason is that we DO try everything we can for viable alternatives, but those alternatives are not right here, right now. They are at least 10 years away. We NEED oil right now, this instant, and we are GOING to buy it from foreign sources NOW, so why not buy it as cheaply as possible NOW, while we gear up for the ... See Morealternatives? There is no way around it at this moment in time. We are going to HAVE to buy oil now, why pay WAY too much for it? Do you LIKE overpaying when there is a simple, viable solution to lowering costs? What kind of econ classes did YOU take that told you overpaying is good?

@ Mr Wolff: Where is Biofuel industry energy plan on FB or anywhere else for that matter, could it be they don't have their own plan. I Have been in the energy business for a number of years, and have experienced first hand American Capital going over seas. And I am all about free enterprise so if you can show me Biofuels energy plan will be willing to listen, but right now Natural Gas seems to be fuel of choice, not the total answer, but originally being from Pennsylvania, think the Marcellus Shale has future potential as do other Shale gas plays in America to get us out of this energy issue, and keep our investments at home.

if only there were some type of cash for truckers program like the cash for clunkers. money to help truckers get new natural gas fueled trucks or money to help them convert their existing trucks to natural gas engines if possible. that would make the switch to natural gas fuel go much more quickly and help displace much more imported oil than the cash for clunkers program.

This is Good Stuff, but 'large scale' by itself isn't going to fill the bill. Shifting to a domestically-produced alternative is good from a business perspective, of keeping the money 'local', but there's folks overseas with enough money that, if they had the opportunity, could just take over the natural gas business. No, for REAL energy security, ...
