About Piedmont and Highly Regarded School System

Piedmont residents live in a picturesque foothill area, only a short drive from the many cultural facilities and fine educational institutions of the San Francisco Bay Area. The close proximity of Piedmont High School to the University of California at Berkeley allows students access to classes as well as many specialized libraries and services. Also, many students are able to take advantage of concurrent enrollment at local community colleges.

Residents are principally professionals and business executives who are attracted to this community because of its excellent schools, responsive police and fire departments, prime location and ideal climate. Parent commitment to excellence in education is strong and continuing, and their participation in the schools is extensive. For over eighteen years, residents of the City of Piedmont have demonstrated this commitment by supporting a parcel tax enabling the school to offer a 7 class program, small class size, full counseling services and an expansive extra-curricular program.

Hectic Family Schedules ~ How Do We Manage?

Are you a busy wife, mom, secretary, chauffeur and travel agent for your family? I am sure you are just like me. Busy little bees running around trying to help and manage everyone and everything in your family's busy life. Managing their schedules, coordinating car pools, finding their cleats, making sure they get to school on time. Although the internet and email and the multiple websites may help, it sure is time consuming. I put together a little cheat sheet for Piedmont Moms to make their life a little easier. Here's a list of many of the websites I use frequently. As a Realtor, working with so many families relocating to the area I step into their shoes ~ what resources and information would I need if I were new to a community? I hope my information helps!

Resources & Information ~ About Town ~ Schools ~ Sports ~ Events

Highland Herald ~ What’s Happening

Boot Camp MWF 8:30 - 9:30 AM ~ Meet in front of the Park
Economic Rundown ~ Link to Interest Rates Today ~ by Chet Gohd

Piedmont Women's Water Polo ~ Piedmont Highlanders

High School ~ Freshmen through Seniors ~ a great group of girls who work hard everyday. If you want a great workout, join this team. The girls practice everyday in the evening and sometimes workout with the swim team in the morning before school. A fast moving and exciting sport. I promise you won’t get bored! Our daughter plays on this team. If you have questions or would like more information just ask.

Piedmont Varsity Men's Water Polo ~ PHS

The boys are a bit more aggressive than the girls. These men certainly move quickly and are very strong; they’re great athletes and are fun to watch.

Piedmont Varsity Football

What can I say ~ high school football ~ fun for the family, the student body and alumni of all ages.

Piedmont’s Track and Football Field is State-of-the-Art

Oakland Strokes ~ Crew Team

Skyline Lacrosse

This is my favorite sport. Again, fast moving, back and forth up and down the field. The little guys are so cute with their pads on and black under their eyes. The most stressful position for the parents and certainly their child is GOALIE. I shared the anxiety with a mom from the opposing team during one game. Our kids were the goalie and we just couldn’t bear to watch. That little puck comes quick, fast and hard. But, wow, what a cool sport to watch.

Piedmont Middle School ~ PMS Cross Country

ENDURANCE ~ SPEED ~ DISCIPLINE ~ EXERCISE ~ This sport prepares your student for all sports and provides a great sense of accomplishment.

Piedmont Middle School Clubs and Activities

Middle School has a number of clubs and extra curricular events. Chess, Mathletes, Jazz Band, Film Club & More.

Piedmont Soccer Club

Soccer is big in the Bay Area ~ Piedmont and Oakland have many various leagues and levels including Rec League Soccer, The Highlanders, Bay Oaks and more. Check out the Jack London Youth Soccer League, Piedmont Youth Soccer, Bay Oaks plus Jack Hyde Soccer Camp through the link above.

PMS Flag Football

Sign up through the Piedmont Recreation Center ~ students will be notified before school begins in the fall. If you haven’t received a flyer contact the Piedmont Rec Department, 510.420.3070.

Piedmont Baseball and Softball

Our family may be related to Joe DiMaggio but no one is carrying on the family tradition in this family. Our daughter played baseball the longest ~ all the way from elementary school through her sophomore year in high school. Our son shared with us at a young age ~ about 8 ~ that baseball is too slow and he didn’t have the patience. We felt that if he could verbalize his feelings about baseball at such a young age he didn’t have to play. But baseball and softball is a pretty popular sport here in Piedmont ~ one year the PHS Men’s Varsity played in the Championship game in the Oakland Coliseum.

Piedmont School Reports ~ Great Schools ~ Scores

Piedmont High School offers a strong college preparatory curriculum to a highly competitive student body. The faculty and staff are committed to academic excellence and the personal development of each student. The student body of 785 is actively involved in athletics, community service, student government and a variety of special interest clubs as well as academics.

Piedmont Schools ~ K – 12

Check out this website ~ an overview of our schools. I am an alumni of Wildwood Elementary, Piedmont Junior High (now Piedmont Middle School) and Piedmont High School. Did you know that Beach has the smallest student body, Wildwood is next and Havens has the largest student body? As a child I always wondered why the Havens kids knew so many more kids than I did. Depending on what your child’s needs are there is a school and a size for to fit their specific needs. Check with the school district, but it is possible to obtain an inter-district transfer.

Piedmont Middle School
Million Dollar Views from the back side of this school. When I was in 7th grade I had to get glasses. I remember standing on the backside of the school looking out to the City with my new glasses. I was completely amazed how beautiful and clear the City looked and the definition of each building. See the link above ~ Food Service, Clubs, Activities, Sports, Academic, PMS Calendar and more.

Piedmont High School ~ PHS

Achieve the Honorable ~ Piedmont High School is a small comprehensive high school located in the East Bay hills of the San Francisco Bay Area. The single high school in the Piedmont Unified School District, it has one feeder middle school located on an adjoining campus. The city of Piedmont sustains a strong sense of community. There is a steady priority to maintain educational programs and services and to upgrade or expand school facilities. Parent participation in school activities is extensive; parents and community members have developed a variety of support organizations for academics, athletics, visual arts, performing arts, Special Education and a community-wide educational foundation. ~ see website link above for more details.

Piedmont Recreation Center ~ Piedmont Rec Center

Activities for children from Cooking to Tennis, Basketball to Fencing, Ceramics to Tap Dancing and everything in between. You don’t have to be a Piedmont resident to join the fun. There is a small additional fee for non-residents.

Socialize for a Cause ~ Giving Back

Events that Give ~ Piedmont, East Bay and San Francisco Charitable Events. Plan your social calendar around giving back while having fun.

CSL ~ Children’s Support League

CSL contributes to non-profit agencies serving at-risk children in Alameda and Contra Costa counties.

The third weekend every year, CSL hosts a Kitchen and Home Tour. Join Us in 2010 ~ April 23rd and 24th for the 22nd Annual Piedmont Oakland Kitchen and Home Tour.
