Kat Smith I still have a flock of goldfinch at my feeders. We're at 1100 ft in the Chehalem Mts and this is not common for this time of year. Shouldn't they have gone south for warmer weather?

DyLynn Stellar's Jay couple have been hanging around for last month; flocks of Goldfinches, Chickadees and Juncos; one hummer two weeks ago...also Towhee showed up again after years of not spotting in the yard...we're between Mt. Tabor and I-84 with really old apple tree, untidy garden and several feeders.

Kathleen Well, today on Christmas Day I saw three goldfinches on my feeder, and had a very high or drunk make robin crash, literally, in my front yard. Just now. Flat onhis back, feet up, but very much alive.

There are lots of cats in the neighborhood, and the Sun is going down and it's getting cold. So, I put him on a towel in ...a box with air holes, on the front porch in large laundry basket of towels.

Now what do I do?

I'll call them, but Robin is free and well as far as I can tell.

I called the Willamette Valley Wildlife hotline andthe message said to put him somewhere warm, dark and quiet. I moved the box in off the porch, and put it back in our bedroom, in an elevated pet carrier, with the top of the box open, a little bowl of water next to it, and latched ... See Morethe cage door. Then I put a sheet over the carrier. I checked onh im a couple of times and he seemed to be coming around, but by then it was cold and dark, so I hung onto him until morning when the Sun was out.

I took him outside the patio door where I could keep an eye out for him, and put his little box with the flaps open on top of the compost pile where the Sun was warmest. He hopped right out of the box and flew off. Watched for him the rest of the day, and walked the neighborhood, but I think our guy is okay.

Sarah

Sarah The first week of winter break camp was great. Unfortunately the fog made it hard to find raptors on our road trip. However, we did find some amazing mosscicles hanging from trees yesterday in the sanctuary.

Tammi a spectacular fog-draped forest enticed me into the audubon sanctuary this morning. first steps revealed three varied thrushes in the duff, chickadees and nuthatches caching seeds, and a raven calling.

Thomas Costello Picture of the Friends of Trees planting that happened Dec 6 - 275 native tress and shrubs planted in a large area recently cleared of MANY invasives - FOT calls this area Rejuvenation Hill. I took a walk up here on one of those very cold sunny days and it felt so nice up there. I sat on an old pile of ivy for about 15 minutes, soaked in the sun, and just loved it!
