Charles DuBack (born 1926) first came to Maine from New York City in the mid-1950s. This exhibition features 34 paintings and collages focusing on his rarely shown, but pivotal, work from the late 1950s. The exhibition is complemented by a small selection of his more recent watercolors from 1998 depicting the woods that surround his home in Tenants Harbor.

Driskell, a renowned artist, collector, and art historian, will discuss his own art alongside other artists who influenced him. A summer resident of Maine, Driskell is a professor emeritus at the University of Marylan...d, where the David C. Driskell Center for the Study of the Visual Arts and Culture of African Americans and the African Diaspora was established in 1998. In 2000, he was awarded the National Humanities Medal from President Clinton.
