We all need to support the "little guy".
• The chain stores do not offer knowledgeable advice. Their staff can't help when you need someone else's opinion on colour choice or need to solve a problem. Why? Most shop assistants aren't even sewers! Compare this to the wealth of experience independent owners and their em...ployees bring to their stores.
• The price of the fabric usually reflects its quality - pay less and get an inferior product! Genuine markdowns at quilt-shops do not compromise the quality of the merchandise.
• Independent stores are available in areas that the chain stores ignore eg small towns and rural locations.
Particularly during the present economic climate we need to ensure these shops survive and will thus be available to us in the future.
