Some Costal Countries around East Africa eat sun dried Manta Ray(they call it Delicacy). So, the sooner ppl are educated the better for our enviroment.I hope more educational programmes are delivered in some Asian Countries too. They pay high premium for Shark fins and leave the 100s of sharks dying in the ocean.

Thanks for your comments - it is good to see the level of interest and feel free to visit if you are in Cyprus next summer. The turtle in the chair was awful and makes people think about their actions a little but it is important to stress that this was the only death attributable to litter that we have had. Thanks in part to it we get literally ... Read Morehundreds of folks involved in our cleans. 45 out of 46 deaths in the past two years can be entirely attributed to fishing nets in shallow water. Unfortunately, we suffer from being based in an area under British rather than Cypriot control. In Cyprus fishing with nets is banned off nesting beaches. The British administration refuses to do likewise off its beaches for no obvious good reason. We are petitioning for a marine reserve area. You can help by visiting our web page, www.episkopiturtlewatch.com following the link and signing up. Evan, we do already protect our nests and educate the local population in a very similar manner although we control the poles and mine tape! Our main problems on the beaches are recent and not generally caused by locals. Thanks to funding from Project AWARE we have been able to address the issue and had record nesting this year. We are also get advice from the Cyprus Fisheries Department which runs one of the most successful conservation projects in the world and from many other international projects including Seaturtle.org of which your guys are members.

in a world of public traveling far and wide to distant lands buying up souvenirs of dried seahorses, things made from turtle shell, bawdily painted corals, dead shells, black coral jewelry and consuming shark fin soup maybe aquariums are not such a bad thing of only to educate the masses on how fragile and integral are our planets coral reefs and all inhabitants to be preserved for future generations. Whether they are non profit or not awareness is the key..................
