There are questions that are so profound that they change our lives forever. And there are times when we hear a total stranger asking the same questions, and we realize that God is present - in our shared humanity and in our struggle to find answers. That's what happened to me this week.

How open minded and tolerant, Azza. Yeesh. So much for "shared humanity" and "our struggle."

These days, there’s much more for Jews to do on Christmas than watching movies and ordering Chinese food.

One of the blessings of having an interfaith marriage is that we can be an active, deeply faithful Jewish family, involved with our synagogue, in Jewish summer camp, and in the local Jewish community, and also fully enjoy Christmas. Our daughter is firmly grounded in her Jewishness but still feels really comfy celebrating Christmas from Mom's tradition.

Since 1989, we have had an adult discussion group called "Chaverim" at Temple B'nai Shalom of East Brunswick, NJ. For many years, the group has been gathering on the evening of 12/24 for dinner at a local restaurant, then going back to a member's home for dessert and to watch a movie of Jewish content.

To really make things happen at URJ camps we need specific examples of what camps are or have plans to do to work toward being considered "green." I hope people involved with camps will post their initiatives on the URJ website. Strategies for advocacy and fundraising to help make changes at camps happen as soon as possible could also be helpful.
