Press Release - United States Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz - Rep. Wasserman Schultz Compl

U.S. and Colombia relations represented by Plan Colombia paradigm is a system that must continue to evaluate the state of human rights. I am certain Rep. Wasserman Schultz discussed this with the Colombian President, Alvaro Uribe. The Leahy Laws passed in 1997 represent an attempt by the U.S. to curtail funding to Colombia and other countries that ... Read Moreviolate human rights (See the Leahy Law at http://leahy.senate.gov/is sues/humanrights/law.html). It is my opinion that the potential for stability in Colombia will rise only from peaceful relations between the social class structure by eliminating political violence tied to paramilitary and counter guerilla operations. Unfortunately the U.S. interest in combating narcotraficking operations tied to both these groups often undermines the opportunity for peace when the real problem in the War on Drugs is the demand created by U.S. Drug Users. I am glad to see Democrats working towards sustaining a relationship with this important S.A. country.

The students in Broward County (FL) in public, private, and charter middle schools need your help. Wild Spots Foundation has a rather unique environmental education program called the Biodiversity Bus. It is a mobile filed laboratory that travels from school to school presenting environmental science exercises and in-school field trips to get kids... Read More excited about the environment, to raise their FCAT science scores, and to present to them future opportunities in environmentalism. We were initially approached by Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz’s office last year to request a governmental appropriation of $1.3 million dollars to fund this project here in South Florida. This program will involve over 72,000 middle school students in South Florida over the next three years at a cost of $18/per student. We have made application and now we need public support. The project even has national implications. Here is the link to information about the biodiversity bus.

We need your help to lobby this idea to Wasserman-Schultz... Read More’s congressional office. For the next four weeks please send an email once a week supporting this idea and presenting grass roots support to include this project in here appropriations schedule for FY 2010.
Something like this: I support Wild Spots Foundation’s request for federal funds to finance its Biodiversity Bus, a three year project getting young people excited about the environment, raising their FCAT science scores, and introducing future jobs/opportunities in environmentalism. This project will affect over 72,000 middle school children over a three year period. It is innovative, unique; it hires new people; and fills a science education void for laboratory work not offered to middle school students because of financial restraints.
