There's wonderful perfumed, floral aromas of honeysuckle, lavender, ripe pear and apple in this pure, rich and silky white, which unfolds to reveal layers of fruit and light spicy, toasty oak nuances. Ends with a long, persistent finish that's engagingly complex.

2007 Dusi Ranch Late Harvest, $30 (750ml bottle)
bottled Aug 2008, 51 barrels produced
100% zinfandel
After a mild, dry winter, these old vines bloomed early, setting a crop of two tons per acre. A warm summer ripened the fruit on schedule, and harvest began in late August. The five vineyard parcels were picked as full flavor developed, and crushed to separate small tanks; a grid submerged the cap of skins for gentle extraction. When natural primary fermentation began, one parcel stood out immediately for the intensity typical of Dusi Ranch. Natural secondary finished quickly, and the wine was racked to barrel; the concentrated fruit supported a higher percentage of new oak than usual. Spring tastings showed resolved tannins, opulence, and focus; we decided to bottle in August. Full body and sweet, ripe fruit make this Dusi immediately appealing. It will be at its best over the next six years. EB (6/08)
Initial sugar at harvest: 28.7% by weight
Residual sugar in the wine: 1.4% by weight

2004 Grenache Lytton Estate, $25
bottled August 2006 42 barrels produced
Shipping November 13th to ATP members
Available December 1st to non-members (if quantity remains)
75% Grenache, 16% Petite Sirah, 9% Zinfandel
A cold, wet winter followed by a warm spring launched the growing season early, and brought harvest two weeks ahead of schedule. The unique blend of varietals in this wine attributable to the make-up of our oldest grenache block (1902), and our second-oldest (1963). Both are dominated by grenache, yet include petite sirah and zinfandel. These, and two younger unmixed grenache blocks, were harvested and fermented separately. The juice was aerated and gently pumped over the cap of skins for six days. We pressed after two weeks, and, followng malolactic, racked to air-dried american oak barrels. In spring we blind-tasted, deciding on four exceptional lots to make this complex, structured grenache. Rich and full-bodied, it will soften further and develop beautifully during the next five years. EB/PD (4/06)
