Robert Aderholt Congrats to Cullman’s West Point Elem. School for being named a 2010 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Dept of Education yesterday. They were 1 of only 4 Alabama schools to be honored! We're extremely proud of Principal Shireen Coleman, her staff and the West Point students & parents for the great accomplishment of being named a Blue Ribbon School.

Robert Aderholt House Republican Leader John Boehner presented a great common-sense simple economic plan this morning... cut non-defense federal spending levels to 2008 levels and prevent taxes from being raised on January 1, 2011. I like the idea... what do you think?

Robert Aderholt Today, the Labor Dept. announced that the uneployment rate has increased to 9.6%. The Democrat majority has created so much uncertainty about the economy and taxes that the private sector is scared to hire employees. If you have local examples, I'd love to hear them....

I own a mortgage firm in Gadsden(4 offices state wide before the collapse of our industry brought about by the community re-investment act you've attempted to repeal with Bush and Shelby on many occasions) and I've been saying the exact sam...e thing for his entire term. I regrettably missed your visit to Hokes Bluff last week but I really have some very good old school ideas I need to share with you and Mr. Shelby that can revive the real estate sector without more expensive goverment tax credits that only offer temporary reporting progress at the expense of a long term solution. The lending models really got messed up in the mid to late 90's but some make sense lending must now return if the economy has any chance to recover. I'd really like to help solve this problem vs. remaining a critic of current policy. I can help in the lending arena but anything that's done will fall flat if taxes go up and some of the Agenda isn't repealled. Democrats raising unemployment sure hurt youth hiring numbers just as we predicted back then...them Dems just didn't pay attention in economics class. It's apparent.See More

Robert Aderholt A new USA Today/Gallup poll out today says that Americans believe “Republicans in Congress would do a better job than the Democrats in Congress of handling seven of nine key election issues.” Republicans lead Democrats on federal spending by 15% pts, by 11 pts on the economy and by 25 pts on terrorism.

    • E.j. Eiteljorge We didn't do a bang up job the last time we were in charge. Our guys have got to hold firm to our principles or we're no better than the Dems. Hopefully the Tea Party principles can be our lodestone!

      I agree E.j. E

I got so disgusted with GOP under W acting like Democrat-lite with their spending. There was lack of leadership the entire time Republicans had the reigns - as if they didn't know how to lead. I'm sick of Rinos - sick of con...servative principles being dragged behind the party bus on a chain in the name of 'bipartisanship'. The word 'spineless' comes to mind.

"Hopefully the Tea Party principles can be our loadstone!"

      Amen!

If the Republicans win it back, don't you know they will want to run it like they did before - the same old same old. Frankly, I don't have much faith in the Republican Party. When in power, they served one heaping helping of disappointment after another. Just to let you know, I dropped being a Republican when McCain was announced as the Republican candidate. I felt like Regain did. Remember when he said the he didn't leave the Democrat Party - that it left him? Well, the Republicans left conservatism.

So if someone else runs on a different ticket, who I feel is a TRUE conservative, he (or she) has my vote!

    • Thomas Barry Moon Where does FEDEX fit into the equation? ....... Are they lobbying you for voting to take FEDEX out of the RAILROAD ACT? ....... I hope you will not support them in their efforts to remove FEDEX out from under the Railroad Act? It would be nice to hear of you riding around with the purple and orange. I have always supported you and appreciate your values and convictions.

Robert Aderholt Economic statistics released today about the government’s lowered economic growth estimate to 1.6% (down from 2.4%) is yet another sign that the policies of Speaker Pelosi & the President aren’t working. The revision is a significant slowdown from the annual rate of 3.7% in the first quarter and 5% in the last three months of 2009.

Robert Aderholt I just appeared on the Danny Lee morning radio show on WFPA Newstalk 1400 AM in Ft. Payne. We had a great time talking about jobs, the economny, the Tea Party Caucus and the prospects of Republicans taking over the House in November. If you live in northeast Alabama, you should tune in to his program weekdays 6-9am. It is a good show!

Robert Aderholt The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit upheld a ruling today that affirms that religious organizations can hire based on faith. The ruling said that the humanitarian organization, World Vision, is exempt from 1964 Civil Rights Act rules on hiring practices because World Vision is not-for-profit. This is good n...ews for religious non-profits and ministries everywhere.

Interesting case. Great outcome for the organization, but not so good for sincere Christians who don't meet the employer's definition of Christian. During my time at Faulkner University, the definition of Christian varied depending on how... much money or power was at stake. Mormons, Catholics, Southern Baptists, etc. were Christian enough to enroll in school and take lower level jobs on campus, but when it came to getting into certain programs and jobs, even Church of Christ attendance was not enough. One had to belong to a certain faction of a certain congregation and Catholics & Mormons were not considered Christians.See More

Robert Aderholt My thoughts & prayers are w/the family of Eric Obermann after his passing on Tuesday. I had the privilege of meeting w/Eric several times in Washington about his battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He & his family have been very effective in educating members of Congress about this disease.
