We will miss his strong leadership and inspiring vision, but we are very proud to know that he will carry all of the great green work here in San Francisco to the Federal level.
All the best, Jared!

Philip J. Dreyfus, Author
San Francisco's prestigious standing as one of the world's most beautiful cities belies its little-known transformational, ugly-duckling history as an unattractive and uncomfortable area to live in, into one of the world's most sought-after cosmopolitan addresses to call home. In its natural s...tate, San Francisco was a sandy wasteland, windswept and bereft of trees; hence its striking transformation is a testament to how its inhabitants have interacted with San Francisco' natural environment to create it into the city it is known today.
In "Our Better Nature: Environment and the Making of San Francisco," Professor Philip J. Dreyfus of the San Francisco State University recounts the history of San Francisco from an Indian village to a bustling metropolitan city, focusing on the interactions between the city and the land on how San Franciscans remade the landscape to fit their needs, and how their actions reflected their ideas about nature - the creation of Golden Gate Park, the Port, Hetch Hetchy, the Sierra Club, and later, the birth of the modern environmental movement.
Join Professor Dreyfus for an exploration of San Francisco's past, and a reassesment of our connection to the environment, and how we can redefine ourselves and our cities within nature.
