SFJAZZ Just heard about the exhibition "We Want Miles - Miles Davis: The Face of a Legend" in Paris at Cite de la Musique, running thru January 17, 2010. The exhibition was created with blessings from Miles' estate and it explores his career from his early days in St. Louis until his death in 1991. Some good photos and more background at the blog post below!

If there's one thing that people who love jazz music have in common it's their willingness to share. Several years ago I met author George Cole through jazz/funk bassist and former Miles Davis collaborator ...

I'd trade the exhibition for forty GOOD concerts. :) Do what you guys do best and do it even better for the spring concert season. How 'bout a bit more post-bop in addition to the world music this time? ;)

By my count, there over 20 artists in the Spring Season that fall into the "post-bop" category. You'll have much to hear!

SFJAZZ The Oakland Tribune selects KEB' MO' & SOLOMON BURKE's performance on Saturday, 11/21 at the Paramount Theatre as part of the "Weekend Top 10" (yeah, we're #1): "Mo' is one of the most exciting bluesmen in the game, and Burke is a true soul/R&B music legend."

Keb' Mo', Solomon Burke. I always love it when the San Francisco Jazz Festival travels across the Bay Bridge. So I'd probably pick this show no matter who was playing. The fact that it's a double-bill of Keb' Mo' (pictured) and Solomon Burke, two tremendous talents, is an added bonus. Mo' is one of ...

SFJAZZ Our friends at Jambase just posted a review of ORNETTE COLEMAN's show last week. Not to make you feel bad if you missed it, but they're right: "All the musicians were swimming in a deep musical ether of complexity, which few could truly understand, but the feeling and soul that came out of such beautiful cacophony was... astounding. This music was clearly coming from a deep, deep place in them..."

Sure glad I did not attend that. I've decided to stop paying money to subject myself to cacophony. I just don't get it.

SFJAZZ Examiner reviews ORNETTE COLEMAN's astounding concert on Sunday night: "On the way out of the theatre, I saw a man ask a kid what he had thought of the show. The kid was speechless, mouth agape. The man offered, 'Mind-blowing, right.' The kid just nodded."
