San Diego Natural History Museum This week, according to San Diego Natural History Museum-Dept. of Paleontology and PaleoServices, Brad Riney discovered some 45-million year old, medium-sized rodent bones on a project in Santee! Chris Plouffe joined Brad out there and they collected 1200 lbs of mudstone out of the Stadium Conglomerate (the rock unit the bones were found in). Now it is time to process the material. Exciting stuff!

As expected, the plants responded well to the abundant rainfall that the hurricane brought. In the dunes north of Guerrero Negro, BRCC Director Dr. Michael Wall collected many specimens of Polyphylla multimaculata (the many-spotted lined June beetle). This beetle is only known from dunes in central Baja California, where its larvae likely burrow in the sand and feed on the roots of dune shrubs.
