San Diego Zoo Tina and Jewel, the newest pachyderms at Elephant Odyssey, are out of quarantine and keepers are working on introductions between the lovely ladies and the rest of the Elephant Odyssey herd. Here's to a happy "hello."

San Diego Zoo We're on "cloud" 5! Our baby panda, our fifth, has a name--Yun Zi, which means "son of cloud." And he's a chip off the ol' cumulus--mom Bai Yun's name translate to "white cloud."

If you've visited the Zoo's Elephant Odyssey, you may have seen Sonni, a cute and very sweet pronghorn who lives there with the other pronghorn. Seems fitting, since she's had an odyssey of her own: she was confiscated from the back of a car and came here to become one of our animal ambassadors. Now she's teaching gues...ts about North America's only native antelope species - when she's not head-butting the keepers for attention! San Diego Zoo One lucky little tortoise has a new lease on life! This fellow was the only one to hatch in a deeply buried nest of desert tortoise eggs at the Desert Tortoise Conservation Center in Nevada. San Diego Zoo A little dental work, a little patience, and - it's love! Who knew that a howdy gate and getting your teeth done with giggly wire was the secret to romance! San Diego Zoo Vila, the grande dame of the Wild Animal Park's gorilla troop, celebrated her 52nd birthday today! She enjoyed a peanut-butter frosted banana ice cake topped with carrot "candles," grabbing the cake with both hands and licking the frosting before biting into it - just like a birthday girl should!
