If you've visited the Zoo's Elephant Odyssey, you may have seen Sonni, a cute and very sweet pronghorn who lives there with the other pronghorn. Seems fitting, since she's had an odyssey of her own: she was confiscated from the back of a car and came here to become one of our animal ambassadors. Now she's teaching gues...ts about North America's only native antelope species - when she's not head-butting the keepers for attention! You can see her story in our fun "Meet the Critters" animal profiles: http://tinyurl.com/ylkqhkbRead More

San Diego Zoo Our panda cub baby shower this morning was a big success! Thank you to everyone who was able to join us for the festivities. If you missed it, we'll post a transcript on the Panda Cam page. But there's more - new video from today's exam! Listen for that adorable squeak! http://tinyurl.com/ycrbxyw

San Diego Zoo One lucky little tortoise has a new lease on life! This fellow was the only one to hatch in a deeply buried nest of desert tortoise eggs at the Desert Tortoise Conservation Center in Nevada. He wouldn't have made it except for the sharp eyes and quick thinking of volunteer Jim Brinson! A great little tortoise tale: http://tinyurl.com/ybgzzjy

It's 8:37 PST - do you know where your vote for the panda cub's name is? If it's not one of the 16,320 already placed, you have until midnight tonight! There may not be any political elections going on in San Diego on this Election Day, but a black-and-white someone is waiting for you to cast your ballot: http://tinyur...l.com/ygmhpmt And if you'd like to hear more about what's up in the panda area at the Zoo, here's the newest keeper blog: http://tinyurl.com/yzyxcb9Read More

San Diego Zoo A little dental work, a little patience, and - it's love! Who knew that a howdy gate and getting your teeth done with giggly wire was the secret to romance! Okay, maybe not for all of us, but it worked famously for Funani and Otis, the Zoo's river hippos. Read about their story: http://tinyurl.com/y9o438j

San Diego Zoo What's in a name? A panda by any other name would still smell like bamboo. :) But "the cub" just isn't good enough for our little black-and-white celebrity - so... yes... it's time to VOTE! Voting for your favorite of five names is ON - go to http://bit.ly/3JIvTP - and voting continues through midnight, Tuesday, November 3. Only one vote each, though, so make it count!

San Diego Zoo Vila, the grande dame of the Wild Animal Park's gorilla troop, celebrated her 52nd birthday today! She enjoyed a peanut-butter frosted banana ice cake topped with carrot "candles," grabbing the cake with both hands and licking the frosting before biting into it - just like a birthday girl should! Did you know that giraffes have daycare and babysitters? Young giraffes all hang out in a group and the adult or young adult females take turns watching them while the rest go out to eat! Right now the Wild Animal Park has a "kindergarten" group of 6 young giraffes kicking up their heels, and their games are a kick to ...watch. Chinook the polar bear had another possibly prenatal ultrasound this week - but still no images to say for sure she's pregnant. Of course, as keeper JoAnne Simerson says, they are looking for something the size of peanut inside a 650-pound bear! Chinook is such a good bear and cooperates so nicely - the only polar bear... that does this! Watch our video of this week's ultrasound and see this unique interaction for yourself: http://bit.ly/384lpgRead More

San Diego Zoo First, apologies to those who just aren't so much into pandas. But for those who are fans of the black-and-white chubster - the newest video is OMG cute! If that's how you roll, then take a gander at our roly-poly fellow! http://bit.ly/37tEme
