To Pete P, FDR started welfare during the depression, and what caused the recovery to slow was trying to balance the budget during a crisis, the depressin end when they started spending money like crazy for the war.

How much of a pay cut would anyone be willing to take if they were told that their job will take 10 years off the life and that they have a much greater chance of getting cancer.

I spoke yesterday, but I didn't have time to mention that it's highly unlikely that supervisors would give up their car insurance or homeowner's insurance to balance their personal budgets. Why would they want to disable the SF Fire Department, which is the ONLY insurance the city has against serious fires? Also, what happens to the cost of ... Finally, without professional firefighters teaching courses in emergency prepared ness (i.e. the NERT or Neighborhood Emergency Response Team program), almost no San Franciscans will know what to do after an earthquake! But who is thinking ahead, duh?

Exactly right! Your picture was VERY effective at bringing them out of their lofty tower and it personalized the impact. . I would love to see the coalition create some large photos like yours to be carried by folks outside city hall to raise awareness and remind the public of the high stakes gamble that is taking place. Keep up the great work and I will see you at the next event!

For the amount of what the SFFD insures, 280 mill is very low. What's that 3% of the city's budget?

Not just locally but nationally! Our rights are being trampled on and our wishes are ignored. I had hopes for this president, but he is turning out to be as bad as all of them. We need to vote out all of the incumbents to show them who is really in charge!

Once again, San Franciscans need to just look to the past. If then Mayor Agnos had his way in 1989, the fireboat Pheniox would have been cut out of the budget. If that had happened, the Marina would have gone up completly, and probaly a good half of the city in the '89 earthquake. Thats why we need all fire houses and equipment available and not sitting unattended.

It does no good to chat with my supervisor. The SOB was wagging his finger at us the other day outside the chambers. Good old Daly. I can't stand this guy. Lets worry about a small portion of our population, instead of the whole. He never heard of "do the most good for the most people" ofcourse, thats a public safety saying.
