Schooner Amistad
is expected to arrive to Baltimore Monday night (Nov 9th) and stay there for a week. Will be open to public daily in the afternoons. The main reason for that visit is actually servicing our Caterpillar engines... so it's a semi-public visit.

In the past Caterpillar donated two Cat 3304 to be installed on the Amistad whi...le she was being built in Mystic Seaport Museum in the years 1998-2000.
Since than these two trustworthy engines are propelling the Freedom Schooner whenever there is not enough wind.

WeOwnTV
roughly translates in Sierra Leonean Krio as 'Our Own TV.’ WeOwnTV is
a collaborative media project from the San Francisco Bay area that
promotes self-expression as a way to explore our shared humanity and
build a foundation for the future. Their first program uses
community-based media workshops to teach film mak...ing techniques to a
group of young Sierra Leonean ex-combatants and survivors of their
country’s civil war.

WeOwnTV
has a long and successful history of promoting artists from Sierra
Leone. The WeOwnTV production team founded SodaSoap Productions in 2002
as they began production for the documentary film ‘Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars’ (2006)

We recommend watching more of WebOwnTV productions. Here is one
strongly associated with Amistad : An artist from Salone, Black Nature,
rehearses a spoken word composition about the days of slavery. He pays
tribute to Sengbe Pieh, the Mende from his home country of Sierra
Leone, and the leader of the Amistad Revolt in 1839.

- check out a brand spanking new page of Quinnipiac - another New Haven's own schooner. She is almost always at home - contrary to the Amistad, which due to her official title of State of Connecticut Flagship and Tall Ship Ambassador is most of the time away from home. But whenever we dock next to each other at Long ...Wharf it's clear that we are friends... and we swap the crew quite often. Become a Fan of Schooner Quinnipiac!!Read More

The Quinnipiack is a two-masted, gaff-rigged centerboard schooner designed along the lines of a Biloxi, Mississippi freight schooner. These shallow draft schooners carried freight along the Mississippi Gulf Coast in the late 1800s making them ideal vessels for the shallow ports of Long Island Sound. A traditionally r...igged, wooden schooner, the Quinnipiack is 91 feet long from the tip of her bowsprit to the end of her main boom. Her deck is 65 feet long and 20 feet wide and provides an exciting setting for all kinds of occasions. Sit back and enjoy a sail or be a part of the crew. The Quinnipiack can accommodate up to 40 passengers. Read More

Schooner Amistad On first of November, a day celebrated in many cultures as the Day of the Dead two Sierra Leoneans, one real and one adopted visited the grave of six of the original La Amistad captives, who never make it back to Africa. They are buried at the historical Grove Street Cemetery in New Haven. The grave of Roger Sherman Baldwin - the lawyer who won the case was visited as well.
