PERSUASION POWER POINT #107 "If You Can Dream, and Not Make Dreams Your Master ..." by Michael Cloud ...
Katy

Katy This from Sunday: Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado, a Democrat appointed last year to fill the seat vacated when Ken Salazar became interior secretary, told CNN he would support the health care bill even if it meant losing his job in his first election for the seat next year.

Let's make sure that happens!

corporatist works as well. I find it laughable that republicans think that reducing regulations for businesses that donate to their campaigns make them small government. While they raise tariffs and expand the foreign policy power of the executive.

Our current two party system has morphed into a quagmire of special interests, that is no longer representative of a constituency. Both "big sides" are proponents of ideas that squander tax payer dollars on bad ideas, a double penalty. All the while the best government money can buy pulls out all the stops to ensure pr...eservation of an ineffective system. Limiting third party access to state ballots, ensuring the fed is not audited, and allowing a currency with no backing and an unrestrive money supply to push inflation as a constant and invisible tax on the poor. By eliminating healthy competition through dubious and opaque methods, we ensure skyrocketing prices of health care. Are the banks that recieved TARP money making loans to small businesses? Just to maintain our current 730 posts across 130 countries costs over a trillion annually to maintain. Is this contributing to our national security? A small, responsive, and limited government is the answer.Read More

Funny! Someday I will learn Power Point, from my kids, of course! They already know it, in Elementary School! I have an older iMac, and too cheap to purchase the Windows compatible software. Gonna' have to cave someday...school. They even have Smart Boards at school! My middle-aged brain is amazed at the technology, and sometimes concerned.

Kimberly Wow! I just took the quiz, at the urging of my husband. I scored where I knew I would (It did not surprise me). It affirms my beliefs. However, it questioned my husbands. It's a good thing. ;) Everyone who is a registered voter, and those who should be, should take this quiz. Very insightful and informative. Thanks for the info.

Ryan Peters I am curious what the overall libertarian opinion was on the "Free Culture Movement". I, myself, being against DRM and using Free Software think it's the only way for our culture to be free like Free Speech or a Free Market. If you're not sure, check out Creative Commons, an organization providing Copyleft licenses (opposite of copyright). So, any opinions?

In my personal opinion the most important way to find a market for liberty is by not alienating yourself to those who may be trying to find you. I frequently try to convey this idea both here and on Mises, so I may be repeating myself to some of you.

To use the Hamburger analogy, say we do have a starving crowd eagerly anticipating our newly opened business. At first glance our business seems a sure thing, however our restaurant is playing music way too loud over the speakers, the menu changes constantly and without warning, and a few of the cooks will only make hamburgers that are overcooked.

Regardless of the demand for hamburgers, or liberty, you cannot sell it to them if you make it seem unappealing. Now i know what most Libertarians will think, something along the lines of "How could anyone find true personal liberty unappealing?", and the answer is that we simply do not present a consistent, clear, and honest explanation of the Libertarian ideology.... Read More

In my opinion a consistent libertarian believes in Individual Liberty for everyone regardless of their beliefs on *any other topic*. You must believe in the right to Individual Liberty for every person whether you agree or disagree with them on the issue in question.

A clear presentation of Libertarianism is one that is tailored to the audience you are addressing. Do not get into the merits of a Free Market economy with someone who has no interest in economics, instead explain the idea of Personal Liberty and the freedoms we would enjoy in a libertarian society. Make sure you keep in mind the values of the people you are trying to sell Liberty to.

An honest explanation of Libertarianism does not hide things from those you are speaking to. Do not hide from a Democrat that in a Libertarian society there would be no welfare, but do not fail to mention how there would be no need for it. To a Republican do not hide our belief in non-interventionism, instead explain how that policy is the best National Defense.

Finally, do not fall for the divisive tactics brought on to us by the two party system. It is in their best interests to keep us from uniting, so they fight to keep us separate. Every partisan bash against Obama, against Bush, against The Democratic congress or the Republican congress is simply a ploy to keep us fighting each other. The blame for problems does not rest on Obama or Bush, it rests on the office of the President of the United States. We should not blame Nancy Pelosi or John Boehner for the problems in congress, congress is the problem.

The Advocates for Self Government I'm shocked (shocked I say) to find out that lobbyists and politicians from both parties are colluding to control the health care debate.

More than a dozen lawmakers’ statements on the health care debate were ghostwritten by lobbyists working for Genentech, a biotechnology company.

To Robert Clark ... I believe that would be all of them, Robert. And for the discussion on reining in political power, it's there in two steps: (1) The Fair Tax; (2) ONE-term term limits (therefore, no more professional politicians). Roosevelt (New Dewal) was Strike 1. Johnson (Great Society) was Strike 2. Obama (Change to believe in) was Strike 3. There's very little time left to salvage this country, if any. Anybody going to quit bitching here and spend the time writing to Congress?
