- About Me:
- I am honored to serve the people of North Carolina in the U.S. Senate. Since taking office in January, there has not been a second to waste as Congress set out to help hardworking families across the country in these tough economic times. While my work here in Washington has me up early in the mornings and working until late at night, it has been great to travel back to North Carolina as often as possible to see my family (my husband, Chip, and our kids, Jeanette, Tilden and Carrie), set up my offices and talk to constituents all across the state about the issues on their minds.
I serve on the Armed Services Committee; the Health, Education, Labor and Pension (HELP) Committee, and the Small Business Committee. All of these issues are of particular importance to me, and I am enjoying taking an active role on all of my committees, participating in hearings and working with my colleagues. As a freshman senator, I spend several hours a week presiding over the U.S. Senate. This is a tremendous honor for me, and I have enjoyed using this time to get to know my colleagues on both side of the aisle and familiarizing myself with parliamentary procedure.
