Briton Congratulations! Squidoo is donating $1000 to Share our Strength http://blogs.squidoo.com/lensoftheday/?p=558 because Starly, a 9-year-old Montessori student and her Stone Soup lens http://www.squidoo.com/stone-soup-story was a winner in their Thanksgiving Charity Cookoff today! She wanted "to help find a way to feed the hungry people of the world, not only on Thanksgiving, but everyday."

Thanksgiving Day #6 As I tackled the kitchen today and put away my groceries...I needed to remind myself how thankful I am, that we are fortunate enough, to have just about anything we want on our table. My children are healthy and have never experienced true hunger. I am also amazed that right here in our own commu...nity there are children and families who live in poverty. I recall my mother and father every Thanksgiving adopting a family to share with...a wonderful tradition to pass on.Read More

I was invited to attend today's service day, working on Miller Farms, gleaning the remainder of their leafy green crops. I am humbled by the speakers during the morning plenary and inspired by other conference attendees that I met today. The results of our afternoon was awesome! Our group was able to harvest 600 bag...s of greens in less than 3 hours of work! I learned that we can ALL make a difference, no matter how large or small our actions.Read More

I raised just over $1,200.00 at this weekend's bake sale...unfortunately my closest friend was killed in a car accident the morning before my bake sale. This was my second bake sale and it was the second time a close friend died just hours before the bake sale started. This particular friend was only 27 years old and... the best person I've ever known, please keep him and his family in your prayers. Sorry but I am absolutely devastated.Read More

I work with the WIC program and see clients daily that are barely making it - we refer them to get food stamps and to local food banks. We try to teach them how to stretch their food dollars at the store and how to make economical, yet nutritious, meals. It's sad when you know they're making a choice between food and paying the rent or electric ... Read Morebill. Being on Medicaid or receiving food stamps automatically qualifies someone for WIC - or we can look at the household income based on family size for qualification. Here's the general link for the WIC program: http://www.fns.usda.gov/wic/ Our income guidelines are different than Medicaid and food stamps - so if you know someone who was declined by them - have them still try for WIC.
