Shelburne Farms

Shelburne Farms Boo! If you see this black cat around the Farm Barn, her name is Fanta. She's our resident Halloween spook, and if you're not careful, she may jump in your car.

She came home many months ago with blood, scrapes, etc., and.... the tail wound. A car? A cat fight? We're not sure.

Shelburne Farms Remember Gorgon & Zola, Lemongrass & Sassafrass? Well, three of the goat twins were adopted last week by a family in Panton, VT. We kept Zola (a doe), but she's apparently a bit lonely now, because she's following people around. She even visited our offices a moment ago. So if you come for a visit, you may be shadowed!

Shelburne Farms Today the Children's Farmyard folks are transforming the farmyard into winter quarters for the sheep. It's quite a project every year. They remove all the pens and build a temporary wall.

Shelburne Farms Beautiful new Rock Garden at Lawrence Barnes Sustainability Academy in Burlington was badly vandalized over the weekend. All plants pulled up and rock wall pulled down. Ugh. What does it take to build community? They're looking for replacement plants to beautify for next few weeks.

Shelburne Farms Worm feeding! Susie's feeding them lunch scraps from field trips, plus hay and old newspaper. Yum? The worms are mostly used for education, and their "vermi-compost" goes back into our gardens.

Did you know? A big handful of worms like this is called a "squirm of worms". Try it sometime...it feels really cool!!!!
