Shelburne Farms Just chatted with Rick Drutchas of Bee Haven Farm, who makes our honey. He says 3 crops predominate from hives at Shelburne Farms: Dutch clover, honeysuckle, & locust tree blossoms. This time of year, it's nice to think of those blossoms!

had a great time making cheese during the "Cheddar is a Verb" all day
program on Friday the 13th. Despite the date, I think everything turned
out well. Many thanks to Nat Bacon for all his in-depth information and
incredible patience. I missed him at the end since Brooke and I were
finishing up the final "hooping" and the ...diary barn seemed empty by the
time we got there (except for the Brown Swiss cows, of course). Thanks
to Andy Johnson and Paul Hartnett for all their hard work. It's no walk
in the park (or farm in this case) to make 650lbs of cheddar. There's
alot of heavy lifting involved. Also thanks to Ellen Fox for her tour
of the massive barn and the facinating clockworks in the clocktower 5 (6?) stories up.
Also Sean Mitchell and Carol Wellings in the Welcome Center/Farm Store.
And to everyone else whose names I can't remember, cutting 40lb blocks
of cheese and waxing bars. I'll have to come back to spend more time
touring the magnificent 1,400 acres and the historic inn.
