Siena got one vote in the coaches’ Top 25 poll released early Monday afternoon. The Saints, who had been 27th overall in the poll the previous week, fell after losing Saturday to Temple. The Associated Press poll, in which Siena had been 26th, is expected out shortly.

PHILADELPHIA — Siena point guard Ronald Moore was one second away from SportsCenter and YouTube fame. Moore, making like a quarterback, threw the ball almost the full the length of the court and into the hoop — but one second after the halftime buzzer Saturday at the Liacouras Center. The Saints still lead Temple, 36-30, at the intermission. Clarence Jackson leads Siena with 15 points, and Alex Franklin has 13.

LOUDONVILLE – Siena coach Fran McCaffery said that he’s going to try to extend his bench, which played only sparingly against Northeastern. Siena women’s basketball received four signed National Letter of Intents this past week. Onyx Mintah, Allison Mullings, Kate Zarotney and Kanika Cummings will all play for the Saints as freshmen next season. Siena has two scholarships remaining. For all the sloppiness on the offensive end in Siena’s 59-53 win over Northeastern on Tuesday, that win will look better over time. Good teams win games against good teams even when they don’t play well. McGuire’s column here.

Temple, Siena’s opponent this coming Saturday, almost pulled off a big upset Tuesday before falling to No. 19 Georgetown, 46-45, on the road. The Siena women’s basketball team fell to Illinois, 85-53, in its season-opener Sunday. That means Saints coach Gina Castelli gets a chance to earn her 300th career victory at home Friday, when her team faces Eastern Michigan at Alumni Recreation Center.

Gina Castelli watched Syracuse men’s basketball coach Jim Boeheim record his 800th win with a certain appreciation. Like Boeheim, who has spent his entire career with the Orange, Castelli has recorded all 299 of her wins in 20 years at Siena.
