Slow Europe Photos from our 2001 trip to Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. Yes, over 8 years ago - photo quality not great but gives you a good idea of the area. We spent 2 weeks in a vacation rental in Sorrento and traveled by public transportation to see the area. We had a rental car for the last few days.

We walked up to Santa Agata - there is a trail from Sorrento - and I thought it was a lovely town. Colleen - you could rent an apartment in the building that our friend Nancy lived in (Sorrento) - they are vacation rentals now.

Why thank you, how timely for me; I don't think 4.95/week is excessive for newspaper access well traveling, way less than purchasing the 4 page International Herald Tribune.

Hi Jeanne! Thanks for the link. This is great information. We did a winter rental in the Cotswolds (England) two years ago. We were not looking for warm weather (obviously) but a place where we could bundle up and go walking/hiking every day. It worked out well for us and we got a good price on a nice house.

Slow Europe I updated the Car Service page on Cotswolder today. CATS Cars from Stroud/Cirencester emailed me about their airport pickups. Reasonable rates - £85 Heathrow to Cirencester, £95 to Stroud. CATS stands for Cotswolds Airport Taxi Service. :)

Use a Car Service (taxi) to pick you up from the airport or train station and drive you to the Cotswolds or a nearby town (to avoid driving when jet-lagged). Most of the larger Cotswolds towns have a taxi service. ...

Mindy Smith Looking for 2BR 2 bath (or 1 large bathroom) in the Dorsoduro sestiere Oct. 2010 for 6 nights. One couple and one single female. I've been looking at so many apartments, they're all beginning to meld together, LOL. Any specific recommendations would be appreciated very much! Grazie :-)

Hi Mindy! Our Venice resources are here: http://www.sloweurope.com/vacation-rentals/italy/venice.php

I too get overwhelmed by the choice. Sometimes it is easier to work with an agency that has a good selection. I have heard good things about:
- Papavero http://www.papaverorentals.com/
- Views on Venice http://www.viewsonvenice.com... See More
- Venice Rentals http://www.venicerentals.com (based in MA)

Have you looked at Palazzetto da Schio in Dorsoduro? http://www.palazzettodaschio.it/

Darrell Smith

Darrell Smith Hi Pauline, Love your site, very informative and real uaseable info. Our family owns a resort condo in Blowing Rock, NC. This summer we did an exchange with an owner in St. Petersburg, Fl. It was great, so we started www.totovr.com for owners who would like to exchange. We know its real big in Europe, so the site works... worldwide. Check us out and we'll keep following on Facebook and Twitter. Best Wishes, Darrell and Caroline Smith

Carol Turner

Carol Turner I understand that Pauline is the expert when it comes to connecting your ipod or macbook to a TV in Italy. I was able to get some info from another website and it was mentioned I would need a SCART adapter. I think the apartment we are renting has an older TV not flatscreen. Is that all I need? Do I just plug my my... red, yellow, white cables into it? Any help would be appreciated. Great website I am just starting to read all the articles.

We have been so busy moving that I forgot to check the Slow Europe FB page! For older TVs in Europe you need the SCART adapter. You also need the cable that goes from your iPod to the TV. That cable goes to the SCART adapter and then the SCART adapter attaches to the TV. We have done this and it works well.

Jan Baulsir

Jan Baulsir I love the Ideal market area. Have you been to Vics? Isn't it nice to be able to walk to everything if you choose? There's also a market on N. Broadway, I'm sure you've found it, Luckys. Anyway, I'm glad things are going well! Have a great Thanksgiving. We'll be out of town for a few days and looking forward to it.

Slow Europe On Twitter someone was asking about renting a cottage in the Cotswolds over New Year. The Christmas and New Year weeks are the most expensive rental period for Cotswolds cottages because many people from the city love to come out to the countryside for the holiday. I recommended that she look at Broadway Manor Cottages... (in Broadway, north Cotswolds) and Well Farm (near Painswich, south Cotswolds). More suggestions on the Slow Europe - England - Cotswolds page.
