On Thursday June 18th, Sport in Society will present a special preview of the documentary, Have You Heard from Johannesburg? followed by a talkback with Director/Producer Connie Field.
Have You Heard From Johannesburg? is a powerful six-part documentary series, chronicling the history of the global anti-apartheid moveme...nt that took on South Africa’s entrenched apartheid regime. The film shines light on the citizen’s movement that took on South Africa’s apartheid regime. It reveals how everyday people helped bring one of the most brutally repressive political systems in the world to its knees. The third story, Don't Play With Apartheid, focuses on the battle against apartheid in sports, one of the movement’s first victories.
The South African human rights movement left behind a legacy of international efforts not only in human and citizen’s rights, but in the fight for the redistribution of wealth, the environmental justice movement, the reproductive rights movement, and AIDS activism. Pulling together the many threads of global anti-apartheid action for the first time in any medium, Have You Heard is an inspiring example for citizens and movements across the world.
