American Buffalo Begins December 3

AMERICAN BUFFALO

Written by David Mamet
Directed by ensemble member Amy Morton

Featuring ensemble members Francis Guinan and Tracy Letts.

In a cluttered, run-down Chicago junk shop, three small-time crooks plot to steal a valuable buffalo nickel. As the heist unravels, the men's frustration and paranoia intensify. Ensemble member Amy Morton directs this groundbreaking American play that weaves humor and menace throughout an emotionally charged struggle for identity and dominance.

That is precisely how I memorize lines. I literally have thousands of cards from all of the shows I have been in over the years...and now my kids, who also perform, also have cards!

Absolutely...uh...nothing. Technique? "I put my lines on cards." That's it? That's techique? Sorry...but from Steppenwolf one would expect, well, more. Thank you. Call me. I'll give you 25 seconds on my technique for learning lines...at least. Happy Thanksgiving all!

FYI, Mamet wrote an obituary for the Chicago Tribune in 1998 or 1999 for the junkshop owner who was the inspiration for this play. It looks like the obit isn't on-line, but it talked about the shop being at Broadway and Waveland. Maybe someone with Nexis/Lexis access can find it, or someone with access to the Trib archives.

very curious on casting... I'd say go for as many of the original stage cast members as possible with maybe one or two tweaks... but I guess that's simplistic thinking...
