If you don't have ins, go to ER please don't choose not to get medical attention if its needed. I work at the hospital and we offer charity assistance for those without ins or even balances after ins pays including medicare. So please contact your hospital and ask for financial assistance. Its a secret evidently, I didnt know abt until I was hired as a counselor this summer.

Yes, we also have a program like that at the clinic I work in. The program is called Reduced Liabilty, but they do not advertise it. The loss of insurance has been a very common problem with a lot of the patients, and they are forced to stop coming as much as they may need to or altogether.

@Patty-I completely agree. These too big to fail institutions have bankrupted this nation and now they want to make the middle class feel that it is all there fault. This country was built by the middle class and middle class values are what has sustained it. This attempt by the super-elite to take everything for themselves while leaving ... Read Moreeveryone else broke is sick. Evil men have tried to take over the US before and have always failed because courageous men of character and integrity would always expose them and say "this is not happening on my watch." Now that we live in an age of "greed is good" and "every man for himself" the unthinkable has happened. The American people and politicians have stood idly by as they watched evil men take over our financial system and soon the system as a whole. Webster Tarpley, Lyndon Larouche, Fitts, Stiglitz and a host of other economists and Historians all have proposed excellent plans to recover our system, but their ideas have been ignored by the current administration. Everyone with common sense agrees that the first thing to do is to restore the Glass-Steagall Act. Second, these criminal bankers need to be charged with Treason. Third, you must explode this fraudulent derivatives debt. China has given its officials permission to ignore this fraudulent debt and America should should have done this eons ago. Larouche has gone a long way in convincing China to use its dollars to buy gold and resources instead of dumping the dollar. It looks like that is the road that is being taken. America is still a country of ingenuity and we could create something that the rest of the world needs to produce our way out of this crisis. Unfortunately, Obama plans to destroy what is left of our productive capacity with a fraudulent carbon tax based on questionable science (the sun is causing the earth and all the planets to get hotter, not carbon dioxide). I used to be a biologist with a 3.9GPA, but this is just common sense.

Wow, I just listened to Robert Blecker re: his views of "punishment" and I was appalled. Having spent some time during my career working with people who were in prisons, I can tell you, the vast majority of the incarcerated will be rejoining the rest of us out here on the streets sooner or later. If we treat them like animals while they are in prison, they will repay us in kind when they are released...

I am completely horrified and repulsed by Professor Blecker's position. The kind of hatefulness *he* is demonstrating is the absolute antithesis of what I believe should be brought to the foreground in this issue, and should I ever be a victim of a crime, I would never want his opinions to be part of the consideration in the punishment of the perpetrator on my behalf.

Professor Blecker appears to be consumed by his hate - hardly a recommendation for clear-eyed assessment of what should constitute punishment in this culture. And lest it be thought that I'm just another "bleeding heart liberal," in my work I certainly crossed paths with people who had committed heinous crimes. I am not arguing against punishment and the assumption of personal responsibility for one's acts. But what I am saying is that I do not find it necessary to reduce *myself* to the level of a junk-yard dog in order to somehow justify that position.... Read More

I can be a person of compassion and still believe in punishment. Perhaps we should collectively remember that it is the *act of being incarcerated* which is the punishment, and that does not extend to nor include then treating people who are being incarcerated as though they also deserve to be treated badly. Setting up that kind of scenario is an absolute guarantee that the jailers will feel no compunction whatsoever in refraining from inflicting *their* idea of punishment at will and whenever possible.

What Professor Blecker is advocating is revenge, not punishment...

My hat is off to anyone who could tackle homelessness in Detroit. I lived on Kirby next to the Detroit Institute of Arts and I would see dozens of homeless people each day 15 years ago. I could only imagine the number of people now that the economy has turned for the worst. I pray that his efforts are successful in putting a major dent into this problem.

Too many boys and girls are molested and raped in the USA. We don't hear about it much. It seems to be taboo to discuss. So the discussion here is good.
