Looking forward to seeing the four large plinths (aka Giant blobs)!
http://www.facebook.com/TePapa#/album.ph p?aid=151538&id=169494893473&ref=mf
The Trust's major continuing project is to place a series of temporary sculptures on the four large plinths located between the national museum Te Papa and the Circa Theatre. These mark the boundary between the Te Papa forecourt and Wellington Waterfront, and have a very high pedestrian count and visibility. They make ...a superb site for contemporary sculpture. Each of the plinths, large concrete cubes covered in bluestone, are 2m square. The project operates to select and install a new work on or around the four plinths every two years, with an opening as a part of the International Festival of the Arts which takes place in Wellington over three weeks in February and March in even number years (2010, 2012 etc). The selected work stays on the plinths for up to 22 months, then being removed to make way for its successor. The first of the Four Plinths sculptures is Green Islands by Regan Gentry. It was installed before the 2008 International Festival of the Arts and will remain in place until early 2010. It has been extremely popular with many Wellingtonians who are keen that a site can be found for the pieces to remain in public view in Wellington. The work is the result of Gentry's first visit to the site when he was struck by the absence of natural vegetation. With each plinth providing an island for “greenery” Gentry has ironically introduced plants to the area, creating replica trees and other flora commonly found around Wellington out of the ever-popular number 8 fencing wire. The second of the Four Plinths Sculptures is 'Untitled' by Peter Trevelyan. A set of bulbous but flaccid organic forms constructed from hinged, articulated, mirrored equilateral triangles. Driven by the slow motion of linear actuators programmed to work at differing speeds and intervals, these are less objects than an ever-changing translation of their environment. These mobile boundaries open a dialogue between the organic and the artificial, mirroring the development of the harbour and central Wellington area. You can see an Artists rendition of these works in our pics.Read More

Internationally recognised filmmakers, artists, and writers contributed to this unique film project to mark the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Twenty-two short films inspired by the six themes of the Declaration – culture, development, dignity and justice, environment, gender, and partic...ipation – will be shown.
The afternoon begins with a 30-minute screening from Mäori filmmaker Dean Hapeta’s six-part ‘rapumentary’ Ngätahi – Know the Links, about native and marginalised peoples’ arts and activism in twenty countries. Hapeta shows part five of his series, which features interviews and music from the Palestinian cities of Ramallah, Bethlehem, Hebron and Nablus, Ireland’s Belfast and Derry, and Manila and Baguio in the Philippines.
Taking ‘rap’ as an acronym for ‘rhyme and percussion’, a ‘rapumentary’ is a hip-hop infused music documentary featuring spoken word performance interwoven with music.

New exhibition for the Sculpture Terrace – 'A Garden' by Paul Cullen http://www.tepapa.govt.nz/WhatsOn/exhibi tions/Pages/AGarden.aspx
Source: www.tepapa.govt.nz
Paul Cullen's project takes the concept of the borrowed view, in which surrounding landscape is incorporated into a garden's design, enhancing the vista and giving a sense that the garden is larger than it is.
