2009 was a landmark year for equality in Tennessee, but we don’t have time to look back. The General Assembly reconvenes in just two weeks and we have to be ready to fight for our rights. If I just had twenty seconds to speak with you in person, this is what I would say:

I emailed this to him:

Mr. Gobble,

The tradition of marriage is a wonderful thing. I wish I and my other half could join in that tradition. We have made a commitment to be together and love and honor each other for the rest of our lives. And regardless of the law, we intend to do that. It's just sad that we won't be able to have any of the rights that other married couples have. I don't understand why heterosexual couples want so badly for myself and my significant other to not be able to be legally married. It's not their lives or yours that are affected. It's mine.... Sincerely,
Amy Clark

Thanks, Amy. Even if he doesn't change his beliefs, he might be a little more hesitant about spouting off publicly about marriage if he is challenged. Anything that decreases the negative discourse is good.

This article is so true. I've experienced some of these things myself and so have my friends. I know what it's like to have to choose to spend the holidays with my girlfriend of many years or my family. It's not fair to have to choose.

As a mother myself, I've never understood how any parent could make one choose between them and their beloved. My adult children know that whomever they fall in love with will be welcomed into our home with that same love.

I don't understand this so-called parental love myself, Debbie. Glad to see you sharing what true love is all about, including--not separating from those you love. Can't we ALL just get along? Works for me and my family. I could not imagine being outside my circle of love. But through the years I have counseled too many in the LGBT community that have been thrown away by their blood kin.
Well, fa la la la la--y'all.
