Texas Tech University Today is the 15th anniversary of Bernard Harris’ historic space walk. On Feb. 9, 1995, Dr. Bernard A. Harris, Jr., became the first African American to walk in space. Harris received his doctorate from the Texas Tech University School of Medicine in 1982.
