Graham Relf Well, it seems as if I have egg on my face. In my previous scribe I bemoaned the fact that technicians very rarely receive Honorary Oscar recognition. Ha! Ha! Evidently, the cinematographer Gordon Willis will in fact join the prestigous list. Also, Lauren Bacall. Wonderful! As Billy Wilder once said '' Who else? And what took you so long? "

I would personally have preferred it if a couple of younger presenters were chosen such as Hilary Swank or Scarlett Johansson. With the greatest respect to Steve Martin, I feel the problem with appointing comics/comedians/comedic actors is that they have a tendancy to take over the show. I also am not impressed by exte...nding the "Best Picture" nominations from five to ten. I think this is a mistake that will inevitably compromise the integrity of the Academy. It will result in a wash of not very good pictures being nominated. I'm not anti "populist" but if the Oscars are to continue to be the benchmark for excellence then this is a retrograde step.Read More
