Join us for a special screening of 1953’s Best Picture winner “From Here to Eternity,” featuring the premiere of a new digital restoration by Sony Pictures and an onstage discussion with actor Ernest Borgnine, hosted by actor Lou Diamond Phillips.
Adapted from the novel by James Jones and directed by Fred Zinnemann, “F...rom Here to Eternity” explores the troubled lives of several soldiers (and the women who love them) on an Army base in Hawaii in the months leading up to the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The film culminates in a large-scale re-creation of the attack, combined with actual documentary footage.
The winner of eight Academy Awards®, including Best Picture and Directing (for Fred Zinnemann), the film features no less than five Oscar®-nominated performances, including Oscar-winning turns by Frank Sinatra and Donna Reed in supporting roles. The famed embrace in the surf between Army wife Deborah Kerr and her lover Burt Lancaster still sizzles.
